Although i make my own fat cakes for the birds, BB was saying he does lard with porrigde mixed init for the starlings, well i made one yesterday and today put it out for them, and guess what the starlings this morning have only eaten this and left the feeding station i have alone, so fingers crossed BB's idea as worked as they where not bothered about the other fat cakes i make.

They did'nt go on the feeders today either, hope they dont get fed up of porriage, going to make another one later.

Thats true, its so easy to do, i just put 2pks of asda's cheap lard in a big dish to melt in microven then mixed some of asda's cheap porriage in it and that was it, oh put it in freezer over night.

Well thank you Clarice ..but actually followed your recipe so its thanks to you they love it so much.
Just shows they prepared to move for tasty stuff.Jane really spoils them she even drops a few mealworms into the fat ..a few sultanas they eat better than we do ..
Do much the same for doves and pigeons .. they like to feed on cheap corn on ground so thats what they get the good stuff goes on table and feeders.

BB this bird cake is just lard & porriage, my other fat cakes as alsorts in them, no mealworms or anything in these.

You do right Clarice .. keep reminding Jane they need to take off again ..spoils them all and i m getting fed up with bread and dripping.

Hi Clarice,,Jane here.Just made another dish up of lard and porridge oats.Today ta huge flock of starlings came in and ate the whole lot,but as you say its so cheap and all the other birds get a chance at the good stuff !

Hi Jane I've just done another one this morning just waiting for it to cool then it will be in the freezer, till this one is gone, could have done with this idea a few years ago, best bit is its so easy to do.
