Icicles for Sandra 1

wow~ that is a lot of heavy snow!

Should probably have cleared it Arlene but ice looked so lovely .

~looks like it used to when I was a child when the main heat in the house was a huge range with fireplaces in all the rooms but rarely used in the bedrooms~we used to have thick eiderdowns and wool blankets with hot water bottles!~used to be about 100 yards from the sea too!

Oh yes the only heat from a coal fire which was never lit in the mornings - we also had those parafin heaters oh that smell .. thawing now Sandra but porch froze inside so still got wet lol

no heating ray,, poor you, mind you ive only had heating last 6 years, i use to hate winter, alright sat in front of fire but when i moved into another room,, brrr so cold, hope you and jane are keeping warm

Only the porch has no heating Sandra often find the blackbirds in it sheltering .. thats how big the gap is under the door lol

Should block it but allsorts of little creatures come in frogs toads even a little wren one day so if it gives them some respite from this cant bring myself to shut them out.

awww dont blame you i would be the same, i often think if they feel cold when its really bad out there, all huggled up in trees,

Think its why we have such soft spots for Robins at this time of year dont you ..out in all weathers cant really think what they have to do with Christmas as such but dont think theres a gardener who doesnt love them.

yes i love my little robin, every day he comes to patio to see us and get some food bless always alone till spring, wonder if they feel lonely

So territorial Sandra only tolerate others when food scarce and wont waste energy fighting ..when we had three youngsters interesting to see how parents happy for them to be fed then when grown chased them away to form their own territories.

yes ive noticed that with blackbirds chase the young one off now, sometimes think thats a good idea, maybe we should do the same thing hahaha

we have three robins at the moment Sandra~ I think mum dad and junior but two of them have little altercations ~ fluttering up together but not looking serious~I think dad and son but they always turn up again usually within minutes~so maybe not too much ill feeling!

thats good horrid when they fall out isnt it, i feel for blackbird junior as he still wants to be with dad but gets chased off ;o(

Tis nature as of course they dont want inter breeding as this affects their survival of the fittest instinct.

Think we do Sandra dont we ? As often a bit of falling out before we leave home ?

Love the stuctural engineerig. Did you hear Arlene? Fires in every room? Can you believe that? She must of come from very rich stock. I remember the "Valor" parafin heater and recall it everytime I have porridge. Do you remember the fun we used to have making patterns in the ice on the inside of the windows?
Talking of rich stock, I'd better do the turkey curry today.

Canes came in handy Toto as plants dont need them ..garden looks like an episode of Casualty .

Very grand only time we had a fire in every room was when my brother set light to the christmas decorations ..was one of my Saturday jobs to collect the parafin trim the wick burn my hands on that glass tube ..cant remember what year it was Toto but recall snow falling in those lovely individual patterns and geometric shapes .

I can remember parafin heaters they where so warm and the one big coalfire, not for long though as we had gas fires put in most rooms, and then parafin heaters in the hallway, landing, and kitchen that was when i was about 12-13yrs, blimey that was a long time ago :o))

Here's one more of us who remembers those things....paraffin heaters....icy windows....open fires. I remember trying my first cigarette when Mum was out and blowing it up the chimney thinking she wouldn't know then! Burning my face in the heat was nothing compared to Mum finding out!!! ha ha LOL

Milky...I know theres more on the way ! Our garden thawed quite a lot today as been relatively mild...shame......!
Pottygardener.....Jane telling me how her younger sister had her first ciggie when her Dad had gone out in the car.Only he came back unexpectedly a minute later as had forgotten something.Apparently she had a mouthful of smoke and lips tight shut,but he asked her a question ! She just nodded and he asked her if she had lost her tongue ! Eventually she opened her mouth and out billowed all the smoke !!Lol

Ha...ha....just reading all these memories.....when the ice was on the inside, and you had your socks and 2 cardis on in bed...and chilly lino to step onto.....by we were tough!...Lol. Then when minis were in you could toast the front of your legs till they went all marbley while the backs froze!!

Minis Janey? Never had that problem myself ! Lol....Unless my short trousers to school count ! Lol..and before you ask..No they were not hot pants..anything but !!

~ Mm! said fireplaces not fires! very old building with thick stone walls~ most of my mums extensive network of relatives worked for the local mine and they used to have free coal~ not as nice as the big lump stuff that could be picked up off the beach~ when they tipped waste out to sea it used to wash up on the shoreline ~long gone now of course!

Yes Arlene...those days long gone...sad in a way...harsh but honest...

Oh goodness Bb - I have a vision of you both huddled in the garden watching the birds with an icicle hanging from each nostril and frosty eyebrows.... lol Happy New Year both! :-D

Erected ti two years ago Suey,and sadly the collared doves do not use it.Apparently you are supposed to ge white doves...keep them in there for about a week.Then they will make it their home !! So may do that this year !

sad they dont make use of it,but it looks really lovely.
