Smokey

Been to vets again today, since we got home at 10-30 he as been asleep, they gave him another injection and he as to carry on with his tablets 1/2 every other day like he as been doing, the cancer as not got any bigger than it was 3wks ago, and he as not lost any more blood for last couple of weeks, the good bit he does not have have to go back for 4wks, and the last time he was there he was 6.8LBS and this time he is 7.3LBS, but the down side is, that he is do his yearly buster next time he goes, but they said there is no point in him having them and his body wont be able to cope with them.

He looks so peaceful Carole , it's good that he is putting on weight , I'm pleased that his quality of life is good and that he's not in pain .. x

So am i, think like they said take each day as it comes as although he his doing not to bad, and he's staying level at moment, he could go all at once, even though he's not that keen on chicken and now i've got him eating abit of tuna, that he as never liked at all, it as to be doing him some good. As for them not giving him his boosters, this time then it is a day at a time with him.xxx

Hello Carol...
That's is basically quite good news from the vets, isn't it...
...You are looking after Smokey wonderfully...
...well done :o)
Don't worry about the booster....
...not necessary to have it this time....

He is staying close to you these days, so less likely to pick up infections etc. from outdoors...

Thats true as he does'nt go out at all any more, oh i forgot they cut his claws for him aswell, so should be able to move round without taking everything with him on is claws.xxx

16 Feb, 2010

That's good they've trimmed his claws...
He's no doubt pleased to be home in the warm and can enjoy a nice curl up before tea time. xxx

Thats just about right for him these days, his excercize every day is getting of the foot stool to his food back on footstool, and then of the footstool to his litter tray, then come evening he does'nt wont to know the footstool its my knee he wonts, thats perhaps why he's putting weight on as he as a nice easy life.

Carol its good to hear that despite the seriousness of his illness Smokey is still having some quality of life, as long as you are there with him he will feel safe and comforted, You take care you are doing a wonderful job with him.

glad smokey is a bit better and putting on weight...

Hi Carol, poor Smokey looks exhausted. Its a good thing he has put weight on and that the cancer hasnt grown, bless him.

16 Feb, 2010

Thanks Dawn, Holly & Carole, he does keep going bless him.x

16 Feb, 2010

I'm glad Smokey is keeping so good Carol. He seems to have a fair appetite so that helps aswell I think.
My old Fluffy never had boosters either. The vet said older cats don't need them anyway, because they develop a natural imunity over the years.
He's got a pretty collar :o) x

glad smokey is doing ok carol and put quite a bit of weight on, i can understand about the booster and as he isnt going far im sure he will be ok :o)) x

My vet said cats don't need boosters when they get to the pensioner stage - they have built up their own immunity. Don't know how much truth there is in this but glad Misty doesn't have to have them now - she has enough medication to cope with.

He really is a little fighter isn't he? good news that he hasn't got any worse, and
he seems more stable now.Just snuggle up together as usual,Clarice,.:o))

16 Feb, 2010

Aww bless he looks really comfy there Clarice. Good news that he's a little fatter now! Agree about the boosters - older cats don't need them and he'll be happy he's had his claws clipped, it must have been uncomfortable for him getting caught up on everything wooly! Keep up the good work :~)).

16 Feb, 2010

Pleased to hear that Smokey is more comfortable you are looking after him so well he looks really comfortable there and it is good that he has taken to Tuna it is obviously suiting him :o))

Poor old Smokey,, "your moms doing a brilliant job ,
you just hang in there"
Don't worry about boosters Clarice my old ones never had them.

Thanks everyone for taking time to see how Smokey is, but i had a cat called Timmy about 20-25yrs ago and he died of cat flu, and he was 15yrs old so not to sure about older cats not needing their injections, i know for Smokey its differant as he is to poorly to cope with them.

So pleased Smokey is still doing OK and such brilliant news that he has put on weight. He is having an easy life but he deserves it :) Good on you for taking such good care of him, it must be doing him the world of good.

Most of the day today i've been tidying front garden up, and he sat in the window to be near me, and he was struggling to keep awake watching me, then as soon as i came in he went on his stool and as slept there for last 2hrs.

Lovely photo of your Smokey ....reminds me of Yoda and the way she sleeps so much...I have not bothered with her boosters ..she does not go out at all..and I doubt at her age it would be good for her anyways..she is 20 or more at least.

So glad to know that he has gained a bit even tho he has had to be off his favorite food..
hugs to you both..xx ~Cat

23 Feb, 2010
