Midday at home, yes, Midday. The sun is high enough again to rise in above the southwest trees and set in the south trees. :-) Two more months, no more setting, just lost in the northwest trees.

Barmy is the word that day Sandra. Greenhouse could have sprouted seeds. Its gone to more normal temperatures now, too cold to try anything outside. :-) But the sunlight has been wonderful! And so much more to come.

That looks magical, GT, you live in such a pretty place although I must admit I don't think I could cope with your long dark days.
25 Feb, 2010
It does look lovely but i could not live with so many dark days.

Very picturesque Gt........

It looks lovely this is the type of Cabin in ours dreams of snow and log fires.I've got a photo of one I took from a cable car in Austria. x

Thanks all. Those days of warmth were great!
All those dark days have passed and we now have sunrise at 8 and sunset at 6. My house is a little behind a hill, looks worse here than it is, but everyone is off the hook for not wanting the dark. :-)
This is a classic cabin kit, 16x20 with a loft. And I barely fit San. :-) I've a table and chair for GOY. A bed and TV. And a electric piano in the loft. Everything else is just plants. I love it. Like living in a summer house year round, when I can't have an outdoor gaden. A bit enclosing, but those are my Kids. I'm not kicking anyone out. :-)

I live in a 2 and half bed terrace and we did the lounge up before Christmas it was finally finished this week everything is new in there (except me). I couldn't believe the clutter we were living with until we started to move it out. Best move was putting the pc in the study (2nd bedroom) Lol, now my untidy husband spends most of his spare time in there and I don't have to nag so much. Small bedroom is where I'm starting all my seeds off.

nice one GT lol

Amazing how it is we can just fill up a space, isnt it Gardengirl. I had a storage shed at one cabin and thought it was a great thign, til I had to move. I'd collected all sorts of things. Sounds like you've got a good araingement going at your house.
I thought you might like that San. Sad thing is he is far cleaner and pickier, my plants all over drive him crazy.
27 Feb, 2010
i have all my window sill full of plants..seeds on the radiators.....enough plant books to open a library....i drive my other half crazy with the clutter evrywhere too GT....
if i had a spare bedroom it would be full as well GG1

Lol.....since I'd only live with him if we built or bought somwhere new to both of us, I would take the caretakers cottage attached to the conservatory. That would keep me busy and out of his hair. :-) He doesn't even like plants with little leaves....too cluttery. LOL.
27 Feb, 2010
luckily my Julian has caught the gardening bug too now....but we wil both be glad when it all starts moving outside again...
27 Feb, 2010
I've got a utility room too which needs clearing to have some plastering work done it never stops.
27 Feb, 2010
my baz doesnt like plants full stop GT, he thinks even in garden they are clutter lol
27 Feb, 2010
Oh, I can't wait to start moving things out. And I've still seed trays to set indoors before then......! Neverending. :-)
Plants cluttering the garden! Who could even think it? :-) I've got mine broken down to big leaved plants. I started some really good ones his friends always comment on. I've hooked him just enough.

Pleased you have the sun now Gt..........will the weather be more settled too or will you have rainy months etc? Looks great there, I love the wilderness...would you venture far into it??
28 Feb, 2010
Lovely picture GT. The sun looks very warming and benevolent on your house. It looks a lovely place to be!

Janey, the sun continues but we're back to -18C and that'll stay until April. Then sometimes a little rain but usually still snows until breakup end of April. Finally the ice broken, the snow will begin to recede quickly and we get a nice warm and dry May but still frost at night. (May is a trick) Safe planting day is June 1st, but I spread plastic and seed in the greenhouse so I'll be ready to just uncover. :-) I can venture in to the trees just below the pond, but these are still 5-10 acres plots and wandering into a backyard around here is asking for trouble. I like to go out into the state park or down to the high tundra of the natonal parks. Right now the Moose are calving , so very dangerous. I do like to go out into the nothing though. :-)
Thank you Karen. It had been so warm and lovely each day. We froze up again, but this morning I'm getting those wonderful rays again. Long ways til spring for us, but the sun is welcome. Indoors, feels like spring. A fuschia even opened up a flower or two.
28 Feb, 2010
Nice to hear youv'e got light and Sunshine GT~ we are on the way to Spring now!
28 Feb, 2010
Thank you Arlene. Spring is gonna come quick and strong for you now. :-) Mine will be later but the sun is helping. :-)

It's St. David's Day here in Wales today and it's been beautiful and sunny and up to 10C so things are looking up. Unfortunately I didn't have any daffodils in bloom which are our national flower.

Lovely to share where you live Greenthumb. WHether you've a big home or a little home, home is what you make of the space that you have and they say that home is where the heart is. It's the people who live within the home that make it a home, not what you have or haven't got. You certainly have a lot of beauty in your surroundings.

Thank you Linda. It is my little house, but I do love what I have.

When Gerry and I first started out on our marriage journey we had nothing and lived in a garden shed for three months as we had nowhere to go because a house fell through at the last minute and we had given up our jobs and gone to the IO Wight.. Gerrys aunt had a guest house that was full up and offered us the shed with use of facilities to wash and cook. We had a blow up lilo and plastic hanging wadrobe for our clothes and that was it. We were happy together and it taught us that possessions aren't important, they are nice to have, but its the friends and family you have around you that are really worth something.
5 Mar, 2010
Its the truth. If the plants fit, I'm happy. :-)

Good.......I like to have some plants indoors too Greenthumb.

In Alaska it is common for people to call women mother and sister, or men, father or brother. Many of us have no relatives by blood here, so family has become a bit of the culture. I was a bit of a wanderer until coming here and often had no place to live. Thank you for reminding me that I've seen worse. We were just laid off and this eases my mind, looking at the little house that I love. :-)

What a lovely country you live in - it was always a dream of mine to try some salmon fishing in Alaska, but Mr CG's says I'd probably get eaten by a big bear so as the years have gone past, I've been put off the idea. Just spend some time looking through all your photos - yes all of them ! Thoroughly enjoyed seeing how beautiful Alaska is & indeed all your colourful flowers. You have some lovely pics - too many for me to put comments on - particularly like the ice sculptors & sunsets but not the spiders. Mrs CG :o)
7 Mar, 2010
Thank you MrsCG. :-) That is a wonder getting through all those shots in itself! Sounds like no one told you that in Alaska there are so many salmon you could fish alongside the bears and never a rough moment. Bears have plenty during the salmon runs.
I had to include a few spiders, not many last year. They freak me out, but are beautiful in their way. Someday I'll be down south in the fish country getting some shots of the wetter lands. Just realized I've a few of my friends shots. She lives down there. I should post a few. :-) Thats where the Salmon will be.

This is just beautiful what a wonderful place to live
17 Mar, 2010
Thank you. I enjoy this simple life being a single resident. The small space keeps the plants all close and clamouring around me. :-)
18 Mar, 2010
It looks so inviting - in theory, I'd love it. I'm on my own, too -mostly with my plants but they (and I) complain of a couple of degrees of frost in barmy Bournemouth. You have my total admiration!
18 Mar, 2010
:-) Thank you Volval. I do think it is all relative, I've been in mild places and those frosty days are very harsh. Here after a dark cold, just 0F feels like I shoudl where shorts.....lol! Once it gets to your 0C 32F, that is colder than anything below 0. Cabin likfe anywhere though I think is wonderful.
