A friends photo, wanted to share some sights along the coastline. Still winter here and my previous plans of visiting the coast aren't going to work out. So I'm visiting there in photos. This is the salmon run area, where you can fly fish all through midsummer for king salmon with the bears, and eagles.

I agree it looks so fresh and fast flowing!

just lovely GT...the water looks so clean....

Thanks. The glacial run off is rich with mineral so the water has its own color, here aquamarine. It does this bleaching with the rocks and makes the water look crisp. Also, many streams are short, just from the top of the mountain to the ocean. After a rain the mountains drip with waterfalls rushing back to the sea.

Beautiful gushing water....I bet the sound was incredible.
We were watching Ice Truckers on the telly the other day Gt...they were making for Fairbanks...is that where you said you were near? A girl trucker was learning how to use here gears to get enough power to climb up the ice covered mountain.
Very brave!

Thanks Clarice, Louise and Janey. A wonderful rushing stream sound that deadens all else. :-)
I live just on the outskirts of Fairbanks and drive the north highway every day. I know some of the Ice Truckers. We are the truck hub for the north slope. I posted a pic this winter of a mountains north of the arctic circle along the pipeline. That is the Dalton highway, only road north.

Good grief Gt...I can't imagine how it must be living so far north, a great challenge....is the pipeline for oil?

Yes, the pipeline ships oil across the state to a coastal port where it is shipped away. It can be a challenge here, but there is such a power here too. Draws you in. I've forgotten some of the some of the common things in the south, regular days and nights, rain in the dark, summer nights. :-)

That doesn't look like a river to go paddling in but a beautiful scene. Noticing that you live in Alaska, have you seen the film "30 Days of Nights". Might put off the tourists!

:-) Yes, not a paddling river. This is one of those quick rushes of the glaciers o the sea. I did see that film, very creepy. Barrow, the town that it represents though not filmed there, gets those nights. Here below the arctic circle we get 4 hours of sun during those 30 days, but usually no tourists, too cold and dark. Though winter brings many japanese tourist coming to make children under the northern lights. Very auspicious I guess. :-)

A lovely setting I have seen on tv the bears in Canada feeding for the Salmon in places like this.

Aren't they amazing? Gardengirl was talking about always wanting to fish here but afraid of the bears. They would fish right next to you. A salmon run is amazing, just more fish than you could think possible. During the 'more than plenty' gorge of summer we get here.

I ve watch documentaries that shows bears don't bother you, they are not what they are made out to be.

Thanks. Just took a drive through this country. All the streams are still under a white blanket, but you can hear the water rushing underneath.
