I find they flower very easily .... perhaps you'd planted them too deeply - they like to be perched ontop of the soil and not buried .... let those fat tuberous bits sunbathe and just bury the roots that come from the side of them.

Thanks guys....the problem is, it's only about 5 inches tall, so you can't appreciate all these pretty and subtle colours unless you get down on your hands and knees! I do have a bed that's almost devoted to bearded irises....this one will be a bit dwarfed by the others, but I might just pop it in there if I can find a space for it ;-)

If you put it at the very front of the border it might be okay, that's what i do with my little ones, it sounds like you'll need Spritz's shoehorn ;-))

Spritzhenry's shoehorn (see Louise's comment) is up for loan! If I could grow bearded irises I wouldn't part with this - in fact I'd get a couple more to keep it company, lol.

Ah the adventures we gardeners have with mislabled plants...I sometimes think the people at the nurserry are a little diabolical... "Who's our next victim?" I bought a clematis about four years ago that was supposed to be one thing and turned out another...only just found out what I had thanks to a goY member..and that, just a few weeks ago! I loved it, and I kept it...and don't regret it one bit.... You could be saintly about it and share your good fortune by keeping half the cuttings and selling the rest ...or sending them to your dear goY friends... (hee hee) If they're tiny enlarge the iris bed a little at the front (as previously suggested) and pop them in with Spritz's shoehorn! congratulations!

Oh, tell me about it. Last spring I planted what was supposed to be a red climbing rose with loads of small tightly double deep red flowers - it looked stunning in the picture! Unfortunately, when the flowers opened they were a kind of murky purple with white streaks, which is not as nice as it sounds! In fact, my mum said it looked more like a grape vine, which I had to agree. I duely dug it out this spring, but have yet to find a replacement.

This little iris really is tiny! You can't really tell from the photo, but it only stood about 20cm tall lol it was a really big bloom for such a tiny plant. It's only in a 3" pot. I think I will find room for it in my bearded iris boarder...unfortunately it's a raised bed, so I can't enlarge it, but ......well, something else can come out lol Of course my GoY friends are welcome to one of these irises!

Could you plant it in a wall basket Sid as you will see it better then-that's what I do with my smaller plants :-)

That's a very good idea Richard, but I'm trying to reduce the number of containers I have as the watering is a bit of a pain in the neck!

Yes Sid they do need more watering in a container than they do if they were in the garden :-)
