I learned how to drive horses and ponies in a cart Irish when I lived on the I.O.Wight. I drove 3 different ponies. The palamino was sluggish to drive, the new forest pony was very light and responsive in the mouth and very quick paced, the chestnut was a show off and what they call a rig. Although he had
his manhood taken away from him he still acted like a stallion and could play me up now and again. I used to take him out riding on my own and he was a good lad to ride, but could play other people up. Loved those days. Lots to learn each time we went out. Especially about the different harnesses and cleaning it all afterwards.

sounds like great fun aswell as hard work . Palamino must have been beautiful.
i got a chance to see them driving the traps with the shetland ponies, not sure how many there were in the show ring but the timing was perfect, it would have to be tho or there would have been a nasty pile up
