well done to the farmer too, not being too fussy and heavy handed with the herbicides

Thanks everyone...it was so good to see them, they do lift your heart...:o) I've noticed there are lots of wild flowers here that we hadn't seen for years...even on the way to town, there are banks full of wild flowers...:o)

Poppies are always special for me - so I have added this beautiful pic to my favourite collection! My eldest son Josh, was born on a Sunday - the 11th of the 11th (1990) in the 11th minute of the 11th hour! If that doesn't bring home rememberence what does? Jx

Gorgeous Janey I love them we have a lot of those beautiful white daisys growing on our roadsides they look lovely with the poppies .. we could see a lot more wild flowers in the future if they cut costs and stop cutting the verges ......

Thanks for all the great comments, there is something special about poppies isn't there? To see them flowering wildly amongst the structured rows of wheat ears was beautiful....a rebel for the cause...Lol!
Jane, that is amazing, no wonder they are so special for you!
Those white daisies are stunning aren't they Amy, when we were first married, we had them all over the banks and verges in our village, I would collect armfuls to put in vases when we got home....then after half an hour those little black beetles would be everywhere!...Lol. Like you I'm so pleased to see the farmers are leaving stretches of wild flowers...hopefully they're thinking of the declining bee population............

Wow. So beautiful. I've never seen a poppy field... it must be an absolutely stunning sight. I'm so glad that they have been raising awareness, and working on the environmental stewardship schemes to encourage farmers to allow wildflowers back onto their land. Did you know that poppy seeds have been found among wheat from ancient egypt? Such a beautiful change from the monocultures we tend to see today (not that I've ever known any different, but a girl can dream).

This is about a year ago Jennyfer....thanks for reminding me....I'll have a look at the weekend and see how it is this year....:o) Today I passed a bank of Ox-eye Daisies, they looked beautiful, and that was in the middle of town....great for urban bees.....:o) Strong adaptable plants aren't they Poppies, I have a small piece of garden I cleared a few weeks ago and it is covered in wild poppies growing...nothing else. Some of the farmers round here grew fields of flax and borage a few years ago, they were gorgeous to see, fields of blue........

just breathtaking, a wonderful sight sadly in decline. As others have said lets hope each of us can recreate a small portion of this in our own gardens, it is the only way to secure some hope for our insect population :)
Thanks for the photo Janey, like the other members we have added it to our favs ;)

Pleased you liked it Iagojames, this last couple of weeks there have been some beautiful fields of poppies up here, really at the field edges, but they have spread far into the fields. Wonderful for the wild-life, but look up a few inches and there are the dratted wind-turbines, creating turbulence and marring what otherwise would be a perfect scene.....:o((
