CBG Liquidamber 2010-09-25 001 (Liquidambar styraciflua (Sweet gum))

This Liquidamber tree continues to show its lovely red leaves even 10 days after I took the first photo.

It does look very good, doesn't it? Even more so with its reflection in the waters of the pool.

Thanks, Rkalyan, Glad you liked it. ;-))

I took some photos of plants from South Africa at the Cambridge Botanical Gardens yesterday.

I love it best here reflected in the water. What a great color.

Thanks, GT! :-)) I was afraid most of the leaves would have fallen off of it by the time I returned. So the photo I took on September 14th was a hurried snap & at a much smaller size as I had to zoom in.

I needn't have worried because, as you can see from this picture, it has kept its leaves. :-)) Have you seen the other photos I uploaded of this tree?

I did have a look. I still like it reflected in the pool. Its quite bigger than I expected as it seems wider than tall in these shots over the water.

beautiful picture love the reflections in the water!

Glad you all like this photo so much! I had to go halfway across the pond to get it! It was worth it though!!! You are quite right GT, it does look wider in this shot than it is tall. That was what made me doubt over the first photo I took. This time I was able to find my way right up to the tree & even found the name plate underneath all the branches where it was relatively dark. Seen from another angle it is actually taller than it looks here.

The reflection in the water is what makes this the best of the 3 pictures I took of this tree!

Really strange that Liquidambar is turning red in September in Cambridge. It is still green (with just some purple) here in mid October??

Where are you then, Vincent? I saw it for the first time about a month ago.

Ireland. Usually late colour because of wet weather, but this year has been dry and even A. platanoides has most of it's yellow leaves still on.

I'd noticed on the weather forecast charts that Ireland had been having some drier weather of late! As I have a brother & a sister-in-law that live in N.Ireland I'm always interested in what the weather is like there.

The very, very rare occasions we see each other I half expect to see him covered in green moss!!! LOL! :-D

I'm glad for you that this year you can enjoy the yellow leaves of your A. platanoides!

It is easily our best 'native' tree for autumn colour. Mind you, Beech is also a must, but a bit big for most places.

Although I had heard of this tree before & knew it by name & reputation I'd never actually seen the tree before for myself.

I liked it immediately. I took a first photo, from the far side of the pond, on Sept. 14th, when I visited the Botanical gardens for the 1st time. It is also in my photos. During this 2nd visit I took at least 4 photos, each from a different angle.
