Wonder why all the slabs.....wish I was near you, I would help you clear out :)))

We've been pretty confused about the slabs too. They are placed in blocks of slabs and also in strips with small spaces inbetween each strip..very impractical as none of the spaces are really made large enough for patio.

I plan to have them all lifted and hopefully re-sited on concreted area at the back of the house...it will then be much easier to really dig. Can't get to the soil properly yet...but the weeds/brambles are slowly dying off....I say....s-l-o-w-l-y !!

Lovely sunny spot though WL...you will do some wonderful things here I wager!

I really hope so. Working out there today (clearance !!!) it did seem a decent size. The sun isn't so full on these days but it's definitely quite sunny during the summer months. The garden faces west.

Karen...I appreciate your vote of confidence :)

You are welcome WLass. I think West facing is the best aspect of all...sometimes South facing is so glary in the summer and there's no shady bits for variety. I love West Facing. Ours faces North West...not too bad, but too much shade in the winter.

well done on what you've achieved so far - you'll get there!

Thanks Weeding...we were expecting our new fencing to go in tomorrow but it's been put back to next Wednesday. I am so looking forward to that getting done...then we can deal with the concrete slabs and the remainder of the weeds!

Hope they come today (Wed) and arect your fence, hope all goes well with your garden :o))) bet it will look lovely when its finished. :O)

Oh yes, they are here :) as are council workmen at the front of our property, tearing up pavements to put in dropped curbs and bollards so vehicles won't park in awkward places. It's all action here today!

I'm hoping the men who are doing the fencing will be able to do the lifting of the paving slabs to make a new patio area as well...then it's dig for Britain to prepare the ground for landscaping. And then....planting....yeah!!!

Thanks Ladyessex...I'm excited about seeing things finally taking shape. The new fencing that's going in is on the left of the above photo so not visible. If you look on some of my other photos you'll see tumbled down fencing and some bits of asbestos panelling...this is what is coming out and a wooden fence with a concrete slab base will replace all the mess :)

Thank you Sarah and Hchristy....it is still waiting for the turf and borders but shouldn't be too long now...a couple or three weeks we are hoping.

We've cleared the back garden at least 4 times since we have lived here (20 yrs.) but then never developed it as we were so preoccupied with our business. Retirement now means we can make it "ours"....and enjoy it :)
