after seeing cristina`s pampas grass i decided on getting one as the baby one i got last year didnt make it through winter, this one is more established and also a dwarf variety growing about 130cm and iv planted in a new pot to, all pots were half price at this paticular garden centre, so pot cost £6.50 what a bargain i hear you say lol

That looks great San. I love pampas grass but it doesn't survive the winter here. Your's looks lovely by the pond.

thanx janey, like you im getting to like the grasses, not sure if to keep in pot or make another border in the lawn and do grasses , im thinking ahaha ;o))
cheers Gilli shame they dont survive there, maybe you could have some on pots and take them inside over winter, if you have the room ;o)
thanx carole i had seen some on ebay cheeper but didnt know how established they would be, some things i like to see before i buy them, the grass was £18 but its a good size, i love it by the pond but cant get a full view of it from the house, ;o)

thanx holly, yes iv always loved the big ones you see in gardens but grow way to big for smaller gardens, this is a dwarf version of them, so wont take over ;o)

I love grasses San, unless they are the kind that self seed everywhere. I put in a Pennisetum orientale 'Karley Rose' in the spring and it has done really well. I also put in a Deschampsia cespitosa 'Northern Lights' which is much shorter but lovely colours. I'll have to post some pics.

Grass is pretty tough stuff San I don't think you can do anything much to harm them I have never put them in anything other than normal soil , no need to gravel unless you want to make a mini gravel garden with grasses it does show them off nicely ... ;o)

I'm like you San....I love the grasses, and looking at my border I've quite a few there now. I split a carex that I bought in the summer and have got 4 plants from it, its a lovely yellow stripey one. We are lucky here in the village, the local nursery now specializes in grasses and sedges, so there are lots to choose from there.....:o)

hi cristina and yes got one and paid a bit more than wanted but established with a couple of plumes as you can see, so thought i would treat myself, new pot to lol ;o)
janey im concidering a new border for grasses next year, but it would be part sun and shade as the sunniest part of garden it taken up already, so do you think thats ok for then, would get summer sun in morning where im thinking janey, lucky you having your local nursery doing grasses and sedges now, i can see your going to be getting more now haha ;o))
