It's a wonder their poor little feet don't freeze to the ice .....

Agree with Hywel their feet have to be freezing.

Very similar scenes on our village pond, Holly, but it does make me smile to see them waddling and slithering :)

I suppose they are used to the cold... but i always feel sorry for them, when the pond is frozen...

I fully sympathise with you, Holly! It makes me feel sorry for them, too! It's amazing how wildlife somehow seems to make it through even the coldest of winters! I sometimes wonder where they find food, let alone keep themselves warm in these terrible frosts we are having.

I wonder what they eat when the water is frozen over. The wildlife is having a tough time at the moment. I must buy some grain and feed our ducks at the park.

Poor things, I too wonder how they survive....let's hope their pond thaws very soon.

When we lived down the road there was a canada goose in the road so I guided it into the little park and grabbed hold of it as it had a damaged wing, I shoved it under my arm and covered its eyes while I took it down the lower section of the river and went and fed it every day with grain until it regained it's strength. It got so used to me that it used to come when I called it.

Arr thats good Lindak....
The pond is defrosting now..so hope the ducks can eat again... lots of people feed them so they should be ok....

That was very brave of you Linda, I wouldn't want to get so close to one of those! How lovely that you became 'friends', is he still around?

He went with the rest in the Autumn, I don't know if he's still alive Lily. As far as animals etc go I just dive in head first. If you dither, that's when you get the animal nervous.
