I'm so impressed with my clems, Amy. I dug them straight from the bed in November and put them into pots to transfer. They were put into a transfer bed and mulched over well...then lifted this spring, back into transfer pots and brought up here to our new place...I had a jolly time trying to find spots for everything...but the clems I made sure went into a hastily dug flower bed which is mostly sand...they are happy as long as I keep them watered.

forgot to say how lovely this pic is...looks like you started a flurry of clem pics...they're all coming out now.

Lori , I wasn't sure if you could dig up and move a Clem.it has obviously worked for you with great success , it has given me the courage to try it myself , I bought a beautiful Clem. some time ago but I'm sure that I have put it in the wrong place and would love to move it ,I will wait until the autumn and have a go ,
fingers crossed !
Thanks Maureen :-)

I'm sure you can transfer them safely, Amy. Mine not only survived all the transferring but they lived the previous summer in a container! I knew I wanted to take them with me and didn't want to chance putting them in the ground. Just make sure that you take lots of room when digging and get all of the roots, then give them a nice well prepared hole and they won't complain! good luck!

Thanks for your advice Lori ,I will do as you say ,it sounds as though they are much hardier than we give them credit for because they look so fragile .. :o))

Thank you Sheila , I have another Clematis that has just flowered it looks very much like this one but a little different i'm not at all sure what it is , the problem is that I do take cuttings as well so it could be one that I have taken !
25 Jun, 2011
I'm chuckling at that, Amy! :)))
25 Jun, 2011
wow!
25 Jun, 2011
I know I should keep a better record Sheila ,I stick bits in pots and if they grow 'good' if they don't well I tried :-) Glad you like it Lulu :o)

What amazes me about clems is the fact that they often look like they didn't make it ...but next thing you know new shoots are coming up! Where I was gardening before the soil was heavy and clayey...but here it's sandy and I have to constantly monitor them for watering...They seem to like it here! so fingers crossed. bought a C.tangutica last summer and this is it's first year out of the pot. It's siberian in origin so I'm optimistic that it will take here!
26 Jun, 2011
I have C.tangutica for the first time this year Lori ,they are only babies i've grown them from seed i'm hoping to see the results of those next year at the moment they are only about 6" high .. Goes to show how they can stand different types of soil , our soil is much more acid here than our last place but they don't seem to mind !
26 Jun, 2011
although I haven't done a test yet to determine the pH here, I think it's on the acid side too. Have you moved recently too, Amy?
26 Jun, 2011
No not recently Lori , we have been here 17 years and I have to tell you it's gone in a flash !! where does the time go?
26 Jun, 2011
Definitely a star Amy.
27 Jun, 2011
The older I get the faster it goes, Amy. So being as they are "dwindling down to a precious few"...every day is a good one! Cheers!
