Falling leaves

The wind has blown away some of the leaves in my garden but mostly they're still there and not a great deal by way of colour change yet. Clever photo - striking against the black background.

so the north is similar to the midlands it seems ~ thanks tuesdaybear.

Today was the first day I noticed nice crispy brown leaves on the ground when I was walking the dog. Some of the trees are still quite green though.

Lovely pics,Sticki..most of the trees are still green,but some are starting to turn now..there were lots of fallen crispy brown ones in North yorkshire ,last week though..especially at Fountain's Abbey..but nothing dramatic to take pics of yet,colour wise...

A lot of green leaves have been blown off the Birches Sticki, but there is only autumn colour on my deciduous Azalea and Prunus Kojo no Mai. Everything else is still pretty green.

The leaves on the Silver Birch have turned yellow and the wind is blowing them off the branches. But the rest of the wood is still quite green odd trees turning golden. Do not think it will be long before we lose the leaves as the ground is so so dry and we have not had any amount of rain in this area for months and months. I even had to water the garden yesterday because plants were curling up and dying of thirst. Sounds strange I know but I have a rhoddie which is years old and its leaves are almost crunchie because of the dryness, it will surely not survive this years drought. I have turned the hosepipe on it but it is not having any effect. I think it is too stressed because of the lack of rain getting down to the roots. Think when it starts to rain it will not know when to stop. Just hope it comes as rain and not snow. Lovely picture Sticki. Thank you for putting it on.

Great idea stickie. Our leaves on the beech trees are still green but some are coming off occasionally and they do seem to be later this year. We have amelanchiers which aren't in autumn colour yet and the silver birches are still hanging on to their leaves. Usually by now ,the large acer has started to change colour , but that is late this year. It has to be down to all the warm southerly winds we are having even though we are having very strong winds.Is this a good sign or bad, do you think for the coming winter?

London/Surrey border still very green but it hasn't stopped them putting a sign up at the train station announcing the "leaf fall timetable" will start on Monday!

Who would have thought that autumn comes every year eh? Rant over.

olive oil ~ the neighbours have a very well established rhodedendron at the front ~ it has turned yellow and i fear it is dying ~ i think its been too dry. it was over 8 foot tall.

it sounds as though its not dramatically different north to south?? very windy here so that will bring a few more down!! last year was exceptionally colourful, i think this may be a poorer year.

Re the Rhoddies....I noticed a distinct increase in the amount of leaf drop and yellowing of the leaves on my Rhoddies this year. I was actually thinking yesterday of asking on Garden Questions if anyone had noticed the same.
They are all over 6 years old and some of them more that 10 - but I did not think it was 'drought' not up here anyway :) I had mentally put it down to the constant changing of the weather throughout the spring and summer (ha ha ha!!).
The high winds this last couple of days have cleared the plants of the yellow leaves and the constant showers have made a massive difference. So it maybe was drought after all!

I wondered if it is a reaction to the last two bad winters,and is only just starting to show? ..or no nutrients left in the soil...hey,what do I know..never had any ! Lol.

Crispy brown leaves off the Rowan tree all over the lawn but most other trees and shrubs are still green, like your leaf pictures;0)

That's a beautiful image, Sticki, you are clever with the computer! Most of our trees are still fairly green, but it's SO windy that the lawn gets covered with leaves every day . . . crispy yellow ones mostly from the Whitebeam. The only bronze colouring is on the Amelanchier and Prunus Ko-jo-mai (like Karen's!).

Hi Sticki got onto Bupa and have a ref no and a name of a consultant that my dr referred me too so just waiting for an appointment but it should be pretty quick:) No.. leaves are turning colour but not coming off a lot yet.

Leaves and nuts are beginning to fall in Derbyshire. SOme of the trees are still green though

What a good idea, Sticki! If it's any help at all...the oak leaves had just started to turn in the Charente last week before I left...

Leaves all over the lawn here!
And I have eaten most of the hazelnuts in the vicinity...which is alot!!

leaves are still green here in surrey Sticki but a few of my birch tree are just beginning to turn amber....is that spelt right? it looks wrong lol

I think that's right surreylad, trouble is the more you look at a word the more it looks wrong!

your right there Sticki, it's a global problem, lets hope it's not a regular occurrence and it rights it's self although i don't think it will..

Update on the leaf situation near me on the west side of Edinburgh Sticki....most of the trees near me now have that golden yellow colouring, with a few exceptions!
Amazing what a couple of days difference makes!

Not the greatest part of Edinburgh Sticki, but it is rural enough to be 'in the country'. I have a great view of a victorian viaduct from my windows, live 50 yards from an area of Natural Conservation but not looked after. It will be if I have my way with the developers :)) There are better places to live - but hey ho!! It's all I can afford.

I can't remember the viaduct, I was in edinburgh in march for the weekend, beautiful city.

You probably would not have passed this one Sticki....it is the county boundary between Edinburgh and West Lothian.
Edinburgh is a gorgeous city.....just a pity about the trams!!!

more still to come down yet, their still green & plentiful.
We will be outside now until next feb clearing them up
Next year hubby's going to buy a very long ladder & load's of super glue & stick every leaf to the tree's,that
could take sometime haha. lol smurf. x

smurf ~when/if you hubby has finished supergluing your leaves could you send him up here to do mine ~ well they are not all mine but they fall in my garden ~ 10 oak trees!!

Oh, Sticki...all the leaves have fallen off my new big bougainvillea, here in Lagos! Too much water...rainy season going on too long, which is also being put down to climate change...

Ah, yes we are just north of the equator...lots of water in the rainy season - even more than usual in recent years, they tell me...but it is also very hot!!
