Oh Pix you are funny...lol...x
Hi TT...I take about a couple of inches of good stem and a pair of leaves on top, leave in water for a couple hours, then dip in Hormone powder, make a little hole in the compost and pop them in, firm it down gently, add a little water...and that's it...
It's the first time i've tried Penstemon...but it seems to work ok...:)))

A piece broke off one of my penstemons yesterday .. I fell on it ..LOL... the little "branch" has been standing in a bottle of rainwater overnight, but today I'll try your method and see if I get a new plant :o)

Oh shame, fancy falling on it lol...depending on how big it is, why not break it into two or more if it will go, and do them all....:)) good luck...

Pixi, are you growing penstemons? I can't grow them here....what is your secret please? lol ;)

Me? noooo..Sue is growing it for me :)))))) hope it survives here

They don't survive in my garden either :( I love them.
Was talking to the lady in the GC (The one on the telly - Beechgrove Garden) She assured me the penstemon they had was fully hardy up here - bought it - took it home planted it up and it was all downhill from there :(
But.....this last 2 weeks it has came on leaps and bounds full of flower buds - maybe she was right, we will have to see next year!!

oh well fingerd crossed :)

I think it was Wagger who said, the thinner the Penstemon leaves are, the hardier the plant is...Good to know....Give it a good mulch anyway Scottish...Thats what i intend to do...and i've taken loads of cuttings too...:>)

I agree Moti...all my Perennials get covered with straw around the base in Winter...and some of them don't even go down...
Also Pix you could leave it till Spring to plant it so it doesn't have to fight the Winter in the cold soil...

Ah good thinking SUe.
So should I put straw around all my plants in the garden? For the winter ? :)
9 Oct, 2011
MORNING....where you bin...lol...x
I do Pix, have done for years...except where you've put Bark...as that does the same job...but all other areas get straw...and it rots down, and I just dig it in, after...and fleece anything that may need protecting for it's first Winter at least...
How did your Day go with your Dad...ok was it..!!
9 Oct, 2011
WEll i have no bark ( i;m no dog lol)
I have never done that to plants..maybe I should!
Yeah was good day Sue..Dad was in fine fettle..was even walking about without his wheely thing lol :) Bro came it visit in afternoon and we all had a laugh :))))

Straws ok then...and it's cheap...
Glad dad's in good mode..and having a good laugh is good for the health too...keeps everyones spirits up...
Is Annie ok too...
