Autumn in the Appennines

a lovely picture and its interesting about the frost ~ is that what makes the leaves change colour ~ a drop in temperature??

I believe so, Sticki, but I can't believe how quickly it happens.

Not really, but it tends to be more predictable and very sudden. We'll probably get bad weather in the middle of November, i.e. snow. Don't forget, that picture was taken at about 2,300' above sea level. Right now (half past three) there's glorious warm sunshine outside, but at night it goes down to maybe 6°c, so chilly.

You should all get together and come out here for a gentle walking tour. Anyone who likes wildflowers and scenery would be in their element. Just don't ask me to name the flowers - they don't feature in my "Book of British wildflowers"!

About 25 kilometers away is the Appennine ski-centre - not so posh as the Alps, but we've trained some of our Olympic champions there. If you look very carefully in the picture, you can see Monte Cimone in the background - highest point in the Apps..

If your all doing Coach trip I'm very good at map reading and knowing exactly where i am.. ( those who have seen my holiday pictures know what i mean) :-)

OK, Guys and Gals, I'll meet you at the airport with the coach. That way you don't have to do the giddy Alps. A leisurely wander through mediaeval Bologna, then up into the hills. Little roadside alberghi for prosecco and pasta lunches, lots of photo opportunity stops and wildflower wanderings, then back to my place for afternoon tea!
I'm off to dig the onion patch now and make a start on my Christmas cakes!

I'm lost for superlatives, so what can I say except that I would be the first to climb aboard the coach when and if it goes...
