He doesnt look particularly healthy, and must be starved if he is out in daylight and scrounging the birds bread......He wasnt sure about me watching him.....lol

Is he not just going through a moult, ready for his winter coat, which makes him look a bit tatty? I think foxes are normally slim anyway.

Well done getting the pic...
maybe too many foxes after too little food ?

maybe a few fights or something ? Nice photo Milky - sometimes see them running down street - we live in open country very near

Thanks all......We know they are in the gardens at the back of us, but its very unusual to see them in daylight...and he really does look skinny.....I dont think he is loosing his coat for winter, as that surely would have happened before now?...He looks almost mangey.....

Milky:
You have to be careful...foxes can be very mean (here anyway). Luckily, we have more coyotes (they're everywhere) than foxes.
He look like he's got mange.

maybe you could leave something out for him maureen, iv seen programs where people have them visit each night and even sit close by to them watching them feed, we have them in the village but not seen one in ages, lovely arent they :o))

Nice idea Sandra, but they leave such a horrible smell everywhere.......

really, didnt know that maureen, phewy! lol

Yes they do.....and if your like Ray and keep leaving his workboots outside the back door, the fox runs off with them and tries chewing...if that doesnt work then he buries them....Or perhaps its the appealing smell of Rays boots ha ha ha Lol

Lucky you, Milky! You've been watching/feeding him for years now, right? We have a pair of them here...they've been cadging the neighbour's chickens...got the rooster! probably because the rabbit population seems a little depleted. The coyotes are in competition and are relatively new to this area...the wolves and the foxes are being crowded by them and they are mean and cagey. They will take a cat or a small dog if they get the chance.

Hi Milky The fox looks as though he is getting his winter coat. Hi Lori I remember a fox depleting us of our chickens when we kept them on the smallholding that we used to have. Animals have to live and eat in the wild, and we have taken the ground over by building on the land so we get surburban foxes too. Nature can be savage but animals have to feed on something. Milky Perhaps it's a good job that the fox didn't scent Rays boots!!!!!
Oh! Cahoots
a fox in boots
He's covering his tracks
so that the hunt
won't catch the runt
when they hunt him in packs.

Ha ha ha ha ha I love it Lindak....Cant wait to show this to Ray when he gets home ....lol Your right Lori...we have been feeding him for some time now....or at least I think its the same one, ..The local papers here have actually asked for people NOT to feed them as they are now getting into homes, but how do you resist those hungry eyes......I cant......lol

The ministry of the env. over here drop pieces of liver with rabies vacine in it...so the foxes in the wild and the other animals they come into contact with won't spread the terrible disease. They are such beautiful animals...and I don't blame you one bit for helping them survive....as others have said; nature can be terribly cruel.

Very true Lori.....All part of lifes rich cycle.......

We have them here Maureen ,I often see them walking up the drift but since we have had to fence our garden in so securely to stop the rabbits getting in we haven't had the foxes either , there are always dozens of rabbits out there so I expect the foxes have there fill of them ......

Thats a bonus then Amy......

Hello Milky,
Don't want to get you downhearted but also looks like Mange. I did google search on images of mange on foxes plus was watching a RSPCA Wild Vets Rescue and looks similar. Maybe winter coat coming but I thought that they would have done this a bit earlier unless nature has been fooled by this late extended uk summer.

I thought it was too Tom....When you see him for real, he really does look awful, but there is a lot of it around.
