Your dragon looks miffed Gee. Lol!!

Looks like your robin has been having a rumble. I spy a loose feather. Having a rest on the grumpy gargoyle after the fray.

That feather has been sticking out like that for some time, Dorjac, very strange! Hope your ankle is improving and that things are getting easier for you and OH :)

OH has asked carers to finish. Using a stout stick instead of frame. Had the nurses in to dress his leg just now. Just a tiny bit left to heal. Went to NAAFI at N.WEALD airfield on Sunday and had THEIR first ever 'drive through 'meal! They were so kind to us. I went to my first GC for ages....50% off....too tempting to miss. My ankle is, at last, more comfortable. Trying not to limp. There is a bit of a robin rumble in the garden going on. One of them is so fired up even the sparrows get chased! The other day they did a funny dance in front of one another. Their breasts seem redder than usual too. Every so often they clash claws. Fierce little birds.

what a fantastic christmas present,

Brilliant I think the Robin thinks so too;0)

Hi Gee, the birds are fired up at the moment. With us it's the blackbirds. This little robin looks in very good fettle. The gargoyle looks a bit of a beastie, he'd scare most things off, although the robin is reknowned to be fierce.

I had a fleeting glimpse of 2 robins foraging and not getting excited over it. One of them appeared on top of the wall with something in its beak and entered the ivy on the other side, from the top growth. So it likes like they are a pair, and are nesting nearbye. The main noisy disturbance for them will be contract gardeners, as it's sheltered accom gardens.

Dorjac, maybe you should put a little sign up 'robins nesting' in the bushes, that might help!

I did think of that Grandmag. I think a lot of the blue tits and great tits around about nest there as well. I sometimes start a chat, then mention there are nesters there in the ivy. The've been good about it and seem to take notice.

Aahh thats good Dorjac, I am sure they realise, its the season! I saw a pair of robins feeding yesterday on our seed feeder so thats good news too!

I had two robins in my garden yesterday too :) They didn't seem to interact with each other at all so I am not sure if they are a pair or not.

I think that if they were two male robins they would be seriously fighting now for the garden. I expect they are a pair Gee. The robins seem to like ivy to nest in. When we lived down the road we had a pair nest in the ivy.

I put out some dried meal worms, aimed at the robins, next time I looked out the kitchen window, there were 2 magpies feeding off them! I have 2 RSPB cups on stems, So try that under the canopy instead. One of the pair hops near me sometimes when I go into the garden.

We have magpies and they tend to be a nuisance although today we have had seagulls in our little garden, so they must be extremely hungry. Robins can get very tame. In the 50's as a child when I visited my grandparents, nan used to open the kitchen door and a robin would come in and hop up to the table to be fed.

Very, very cold here today so a bit more bird activity in the garden, lots of starlings and jackdaws. I miss my old friends Freaky and Hoppity who were so tame. No sign yet of any wagtails. I wonder if they will come with the colder weather?
31 Jan, 2012
Haven't seen any wagtails this winter either Gee, We had two wagtails that visited all last winter and they liked the mealworms.

One arrived in my garden yesterday, very briefly, Linda. I was very pleased to see it and wondered if it was the one who spent so much time in my kitchen last year! I do hope so :)

I suppose Gee that most tiny birds don't live all that long. Your Hoppity must have been very clever to be with you so long. We had a bandy legged robin in the garden for a long time too, but not very tame....just recognisable by his funny legs! Yesterday at 12md there was a vixen fox sniffing around, about 10 ft from the back door. Strange having what amounts to a pack of wild dogs populating a garden near the middle of town.

Hoppity did do well, Dorjac, when she first appeared she had two good legs and I wondered how she would survive when the leg was damaged. I was amazed when she continued to visit after the foot disappeared! She was around for nearly 3 years and raised 2 lots of babies each year during that time. She disappeared just after the first batch last year :(
The hard frosts have certainly brought back lots of birds to the garden, about a dozen sparrows yesterday - up until now they have been finding enough food up the lane in the hedgerows.
I think it is amazing that you have foxes in your garden. I would never get anything done, just watching and waiting for them :)
Hope you and OH are keeping warm and safe in this weather. Take care.

Certainly ccccold GEE. The little fox came up the steps onto the patio. Sniffed at the boxes that ginger feral cat sometimes uses.....stood under the seed feeders looking up for a while. Then she trotted off behind the garden shed. A moment later she was back standing on one of the garden sinks on the patio. I opened the back door. She fled a few feet, then did that foxy thing of stopping for a stare, then over the fence. Bright sunshine and 1.45pm. There is definitely a marked change in fox behaviour around here.
