excellent photo - looks so much like our trellis - blue looks lovely with the plants - wasn't aware they actually ate berries

No I didn't know that either Paul. The red berries and dark green looks wonderful beside the Choisya. :))

That's the first time I've seen a squirrel eating berries and the back wall of my house is covered in Cotoneaster they spend all their time digging up my lawn looking for the nuts they have buried there .. a lovely photo :o)

that's a lovely red - what plant is is it, please?

I don't mind feeding the squirrels if only they'd leave some for the birds - it's called a "bird feeder", after all! and if I could hang them somewhere that didn't encourage either birds or squirrels into the garden to mug my planters.

Such a vibrant photo, so cheery!

Thanks Val, Fran it is a Pyracantha a very worthwhile plant to have in the garden for the flowers and the berries.
Amy this is the first time we have seen the squirrels eating the berries........they must be hungry!!
Thanks HB and Karen, the Choisya always brightens up the garden at this time of year.
Jen H as there are so many berries on this particular plant they have lasted a lot longer this year.
Paul thanks, the trellis is now on it's last legs OH is replacing it all (6 ft a time) with a solid fence, never ending job!!

thanks, DD, going to check it out and add it to my "maybe" list - depends on eventual size and its needs. it can go on my "sigh, wish!" list, anyeay!

Beautiful pic, Dotty.
Gorgeous colours :o)

Lovely pic Dotty. Our squirrels don't touch our berries . . . like Amy's, they just dig up bits of lawn looking for those pesky walnuts they buried last year!

Thanks ladies, not many left now.

Gorgeous Dd......lucky you having a squirrel, this pic has cheered me up no end, makes a change from our monochrome landscape....:)))

One of my favourites plants. All my orange berries have been eaten but the red ones are still there untouched again!

Janey so pleased this pic cheered you up, we have some sunshine today!!
San this is a first for us, not been back to them though. Gee that is odd.

Might have been a young squirrel trying something new? and not liking it very much so not going back for seconds?

Just checked the plant: BBC Plant-Finder has three types, ranging from 3 to 6 metres tall and 3 to 4 wide. sigh, will have to take it off my "want" list, or at least move it to the "want when I have space for it" list

Fran you could be right there.......yes Pyracanthas are rather large, but we keep one in the front garden which is about 4ft tall, we prune it every year.

14 Feb, 2012

the sites didn't emantion prune-ability! I'm alwasy a bit wary of pruning, afraid I'll take too much off, but I suppose as long as one snips at the ends when it's about the size one wants, to keep it at about that size ...

They do respond well to pruning.....

smiles, I tend to be a rather indulgent "parent"! I have to keep reminding myself that too much freedom to run wild is as bad as being too severely restricted - applies to plants and people alike!
