lol a handy measure is that a foot is 30 cm, four inches is 10 cm - I work out the rest from that - a metre is "about a yard"

Thanks Fran I'll try to remember that , I did know that a metre is about 1yd 3" I carry a tape measure around in my handbag these days LOL... when I'm confronted with table-cloths or curtains that are hundreds of cms it might as well be in a foreign language ....

with my diy I'm measuring in metric, that way I have to think in metric, rather than convert everything back and forth - but I'm still an imperialist at heart!
