This is one of the new low-growing ground cover Clematis. I bought one a couple of years ago, but lost it due to flooding over winter. So this year I bought a couple more and planted them in drier places. It is a lovely shade of pale mauve, and as you can see a sort of semi-double flower form.

yes, it's definitely worth trying again I feel, but if these two don't survive the winter I shall have to give up on it, which would be a pity.

Fantastic colour, Karen. And the shape of flower is very nice too :)

Lovely colour! I'm pleased you are persevering :-)

Beautiful Karen. So as ground cover Clems, do you just leave them to scramble on the ground?

Sumptuous Karen...
5 Jun, 2012
Yes Dawn, exactly. They make great partners for low growing shrubs like leucothoe and hardy fuchsia, young Skimmia etc., but my two are just being left to scramble along the top of the bark mulch. One has been planted at the edge of the railway sleepers, to soften the edge of that at the gravel seating area.
Thanks everyone, it is a great flower.

Thanks for that Karen, very interesting - looks like another for the Wishlist :-)

Yes, I have just added it to mine Dawn. It is really lovely Karen.

I have just googled it. I was aware of the low growing clems but not ground cover ones. If you prune it immediately after flowering it will repeat flower, probably single flowers 2nd time around. What a great find. You do your research well. I've put it in my favourites too but I'm not sure if I have a place to grow it in full sun.

:) Thank you all.

SG...full sun? in Scotland? lol ;)

There is the rub Ks how do you define all those terms which mean very little.
7 Jun, 2012
Yes, indeed.

Mine just about to flower, but it does look rather sickly and I am thinking it might succumb to wilt by the looks of it. Hope it survives. It needs some sunshine and we just are not getting enough of that.

Whoa, what a wild night. Awoken by whistling winds at goodness knows what time, then woken up by Scott at 7am with a cuppa, but I have a horrible headache. He thinks it is air pressure change. Feel rotten. One tree and one rose bush had succumbed to wind rock, but I've been out in my pjs and tied them to stakes....b****y weather :(

A bit windy here tonight, but rain has stopped for now. I am so sick of not being able to get outside and do any work in the garden now. Although to be fair I am never here at the moment so it still would not get done. Had Sarah back to Dr today, changed medication she is not sleeping because of the pain in her legs all from the trapped nerve, it is making her very very tired. She says it is like someone stabbing her and it is so bad she is only getting about 4 hours a night sleep and that is very broken sleep too. She did manage to get a couple of hours this afternoon while I was there though so hopefully the tablets will have kicked in and she will get some rest this weekend.

Oh no, poor love. How awful...that sounds really really bad. They'll be putting her on diazepam next! It will still hurt, but she won't care!
8 Jun, 2012
she managed two hour spells last night, walked for a while and then went back to sleep for another two hours, she said the pain was not as bad as it had been but she is absolutely cream crackered. She thinks it is less painful because she was getting up and walking about instead of laying and letting it get worse though. Must be awful when you are the only one awake and it is in the middle of night with nothing to take your mind off things. I told her to watch tv and sleep on sofa as she can manage two hours on there and she might just drift off again. Dr gave her another two weeks off work and we are back at chiropractitioner on Monday.

That's what I did when I had that awful virus..Just set up a bed on the sofa and watched telly till I drifted off. Much more relaxing than lying awake in your bed all night thinking about how ill you feel!
9 Jun, 2012
Too right :o) even better with a drink or two only trouble is Sarah was not able to even stand up until last week to make a drink and that was just a cuppa tea. lol. maybe that is where she is going wrong :o) I will tell her lol but do not think at this moment she ought to try a drink or two mixing with the tablets maybe not a good idea.

Great thing about whisky...it sits right beside you! ;)
10 Jun, 2012
lol :o) what are you like girl!
10 Jun, 2012
I know! When I explained to my weight-watchers leader that the reason I'd put on 2lb was because I'd been ill and had drunk a whole bottle of whisky in 3 days her jaw dropped....and she's quite a drinker herself....and after that, trying to convince her that I don't normally drink much at all (I know I talk about it a lot, but I'm mostly talk as you know) was quite a challenge! lol! Must admit I shocked myself a bit too!
11 Jun, 2012
lol :o0) I can just see her face what a laugh!
11 Jun, 2012
It was a picture, which I myself thought was a tad hypocritical on her part. One week she put on 5lb with bevvy and partying...and she's even older than me!! But she is like a stick though, so that's ok!
11 Jun, 2012
Stop enough is enough. I shall not be wanting to eat my strawberries and ice cream for my supper soon. I cannot remember being a stick since about 50 years ago. lol. then you came along and look at me now. Its all your fault. lol.
11 Jun, 2012
Must add it is not just all your fault it is the food and the goodies and the baking and all that stuff that I just cannot resist - it is a good job I do not drink as well or I should be twice the size I am. lol.
11 Jun, 2012
lol....blame me if you like...I blame Rachel! :D
11 Jun, 2012
lol :o) good things to have to blame though.
12 Jun, 2012
I have mine in a pot. In pair with a c. biju. both nice.
12 Jun, 2012
Abolutely lovely Bik. I have Bijou too....planted near to one of the Filigree...Hoping they will eventually mingle, but they might be a little too far apart...we'll see.
12 Jun, 2012
Hate to go on and on about C.G. Blades but she blooms low and wants to take off across the bed instead of climbing the trellis...could it be that I should let her roam horizontally? Maybe get more flowers from her? Thanks for this insight,K. I love this Clem...it is a beauty and a ground cover...who'd a thunk it? I have these nasty little beetles that have consumed the flower...congregated in the stamens and chewed the petals to pieces...ever had this problem?
12 Jun, 2012
Nope, not that particular pest, not unless they are earwigs, which come september (if its anything like the last two years) will eat every remaining flower and leaf in sight). Grrrrrr...I HATE earwigs!! Lori, I'm sorry but I really don't know if letting her roam horizontally will produce more flowers...sorry. I hope it does though! :D
12 Jun, 2012
you probably mean the green beetles.I have the problem.
13 Jun, 2012
Share your disgust for earwigs, K. I have those too...but so far it's just these gray-brown beetles that look a bit like a curculio but an odd colour. Thought it might be sawflies but found the beetles munching away...haven't seen the green beetles yet, but I'm sure they're waiting in the wings, Bik. I won't use insecticides so I have to pick them off by hand...with the G.Blades blossom I just picked the blossom and ground it all underfoot! Yuck!
13 Jun, 2012
Lorilyn57 - Do the beetles have a greenish/bronzy shiny wing casing and about 10mm in size? If it does they are probably garden chafers they do attack plants. Google garden chafer and see if it looks like your beetle.
13 Jun, 2012
Thanks for that Mum, I was clueless...you should be on the questions pages answering people's questions! :D
13 Jun, 2012
You're welcome, only know because Paul had them at work and I wanted to know what they were, very pretty beetles but can do quite a lot of damage apparently.
