They're ever so pretty, Bloomer :)
Somebody was telling me, the other day, that if you infuse a few heads in wine vinegar, it makes nice salad dressing...

Thanks Karen..one of my favourite plants.I suppose it would make a nice dressing..I just cut some to sprinkle on salads...and the flowers too..:o)

Yes, that's what I do too :)
But, I suppose you could have chive dressing when it's out of season... :)

I've got some in flower, usually i use them alot and they never get to this stage, but i've let them flower as i'm going to see what the flowers taste like as i now you can eat them aswell.

There's something strange about eating flowers, though...nasturtiums are another edible, aren't they? ;)

I came home from holiday once and wondered why I didn't have any courgettes...
It turned out that OH's son and girlfriend had eaten all the flowers, stuffed and deep-fried! lol! :)))

I've seen them use courgette flowers on these cookery programes on tele thats where i heard of eating chive flowers.

Yes, they thought that they were delicious! I haven't tried them though...

I'm sure they would be fine,if you seeded some now,Moti..try some in a pot for now..in fact,I think they would look lovely..might do that when I split mine.:o)
..................
I remember you saying that last year,Carole..glad you let them flower this year..you can have both the flowers and stems now..:o)..and another good thing..I never see any snails or slugs around them,so dual purpose really :o)
...........................
I know what you mean,Karen..I was a bit sceptical, when I first tried them..but to be honest,I prefer the green bits..I only scatter a few petals on ,to look pretty...none of our lot would try them though! ..:o) I don't like Courgettes ,so it won't be me nicking your flowers ! LOl...

They are looking very pretty Sandra, are they planted in your gravel area, they look very happy!

7 Jun, 2012

Thank you,Carole..they are in a small border next to the gravel..and it fills all the space, which was the intention..it's quite well drained, and gets all the sun,so seems to like it there..:o)

Courgette flowers are a big thing in Italy, and you can packs of them at vastly inflated prices - I think they're a bit overrated, myself. I have chives in my herb border, but they are a bit overshadowed by the huge sage bush, and I tend to forget they are there. Wonderful flavour, though - I like 'em snipped into potato salad.

So do I ,Gattina...and cottage cheese..:o)

Lovely clump of chives. Very useful in salads. The flowers always remind me of the wild thrift that grows along the cliffs.

Thanks Lindak..they do look similar don't they? I like to see the thrift growing well too..:o)
