Meconopsis ..... Blue Poppy ....

Thanks Sticki ,I'm pleased to have a surviver from last year ,my seeds haven't grown...

and my poppy hasnt flowered this year!!! :-(

My poppies haven't been that great either. They have flowered, but very sporadically and they seem smaller (the plants) than last year. I'm not going to continue to buy them now, I shall enjoy these while they last, but I don't think I shall ever have them right through the border, so I shall give up on that dream. I'm introducing some digitalis instead...and none of them are flowering either lol ...it's a job that required patience this gardening lark!...oh, almost forgot to say - this one is lovely Amy. Lovely intensity of blue! :D

Thanks all , looks as if it must be bad year for blue poppies you will find Digitalis easy Karen my garden is full of them ,they seed themselves everywhere .. :o)

Kathy/Amy - quick question, I bought some ladybird poppy seed a few weeks ago, instructions say to grow where they are to flower but would prefer to sow in seed trays and pot on, what do you think?

I had a ladybird poppy plant I bought it at the Sandringham garden show a couple of years ago , it sadly didn't grow the next year , If I have any blue poppy seeds this year I will save you some Dawn I can't see that it would matter if you grow your poppies in a tray , put some in a tray and then save a few to sow in a spot out of the way somewhere ,remember where you put them LOL . that way if they grow you will have more seed for next year .. they don't always flower in the first year Kathy in fact I read somewhere that you should nip the buds off in the first year ,I'm never brave enough to do that !

i had ladybird poppies once they were lovely but they never came back.

Mine neither. I was very sad, as Shirley was so kind last year and sent to me some seeds from her beautiful poppies and I seeded it in my south oriented part of garden and although they started to grow, they died or what, as I do not see anything now.

My white ones didn't come either Janey :o( .. Me to Slad they are such an amazing colour , I will save some seed this year if you would like to try again Kat !
