Strawberry Jam

Strawberry Jam

To Cook ...... Microwave method
makes 1 1/2 jars

ingredients

500g strawberries ,washed,hulled.chopped
1 1/2 cups white suger
1 large lemon ,juiced

Method
Place strawberries into a 3-litre capacity heatproof microwave bowl ,add sugar and 1/3 cup lemon juice .Microwave ,uncovered ,for 4 minutes on HIGH (100%) power , Stir
Microwave for a further 15 minutes on HIGH ( 100%) ( jam should still be runny ) or until jam reaches setting point ( see hint ) .
Spoon hot jam into hot sterilised jars . Seal.
Notes
Hint : to check if jam has reached setting point ,place 1 teaspoon of jam onto a chilled saucer. Place into freezer for 5 minutes ,run your finger through jam, If the surface wrinkles and jam stays in 2 separate portions , it's ready to bottle ,if not cook for a little longer and retest ...

My tips .. I put a few gooseberries chopped in with the strawberries to help with the setting , also I found I had to cook for an extra 8 mins .. it probably depends on the ripeness of the Strawberries ...

Good Luck !

Delicious TT ... Pp how on earth did you ever get to try it like that ! what happened did you drop the jam on the potato or the potato on the jam the first time you tried it ? I use to like new left over potatoes sliced in a sandwich with pepper and salt ...

I once was a Student Amy.... I hit on this gem in the "bleary eyed 'oh go on then' days" Best with loose set raspberry jam. load the spud like it was a scone, don't drizzle all over.

Gonna try your sandwich !

How nice you're getting enough to make Jam...

I wouldn't mind the Microb recipe too, never tried doing it like that before...

Thanks so much Amy, I have it now...it's funny I'm picking that amount anyway for Desert, so ideal for the Micro version...

Just a tip, I always keep "Jam Sugar" here when making Jams/Jellies just in case, comes in indiviual packets...always handy to have...as a top up for setting....

I will for sure, I have a lot more coming to ripen now, didn't realise I could make a small amount, like that...

I'm sure you should be able to get Jam sugar, I'll look on google and see if I can find the name for you in the UK...

LOL I'm sorry Sue I can't help laughing ,I hadn't thought of that , my OH use to work for British Sugar ( Silver Spoon ) as an Agronomist ... I was still thinking of the days when you bought a bottle of pectin ,, I wonder if they still sell that ?

19 Jul, 2012

Ha Ha...lol...oh well you know it's ok then....This will be your Pectin, you don't make your jam with it, just add for the extra pectin required...
