Sorry to spoil your vision lori, but had to leave this one, my xmas tree for 2008, i think it was. I thought it was dying as it started to look all yellow but turned out i had bought a varigated h.cedar without knowing! Dont think the GC knew either, didnt look yellow when i bought it! I would definitely have brought it if i cld have but sharing a small vw van with a husband a dog and part of my garden for 3 months in midwinter wasnt really on.

I'm sure you will have a perfect frame for your vista in no time. Will you grow roses in Yorkshire? I'm going to look for that lovely deep red rose you had on your patio. Senior moment...can't remember it's name. I'm sure you know which one I mean, and it will come to me eventually. When the sunporch is finished I want to plant roses around the foundation. a couple of climbers (new dawn) and moer of my favs..the little minis.

Souvenir du Dr. Jamain, that has always been my favourite rose.
I gave a self grown cutting to my daughter and it has done very well here. Several l GOY members have her too so i know she doesnt only thrive in warmer climes. Because of the sccale of this garden i might have to look at the mimis as an option, any suggestions there maybe? Definitely fragfant though.

I have planted the very dwarf "Kordana" roses. I bought a 4 inch pot of 4 plants at the grocery store. They were dropping their leaves and looked sad...so I took them home and put them in the front of the garden bed and they thrived there, loving the warm sun and my composted builder's blech soil! I went back to the store and loaded up. They come in red, peach, peach pink, pink, purple pink, butter yellow, white, cad. yellow, orange red, deep dark red...and they all survived a Canadian winter. Perfect!
sadly, they are none of them fragrant. Perhaps a double rugosa in the mix would supply the fragrance? I had Therese Bugnet in my front garden and she scented the whole street and put out two flushes of blossom...more if deadheaded conscientiously. Therese is a large plant though and very thorny! dangerously so.. makes a good sidewalk planting..where foot traffic might be tempted to take a shortcut, they'll think twice when they see those spines!
