Bunny-proof veg?

Yes, it's very pretty, thank you Sticki. Sleepers on the bottom and for posts then lots (and lots of boards!) and chook wire.
I spied some old and mossy sleepers beside that barn we visited. I asked the farmers grandaughter if I could claim them but have heard nothing back yet.

you might need a plough horse to move the sleepers!!?
i was thinking it was moveable but i must have been remembering the gate which you can just see, bottom left.

i loved it oliveoil, it was in an open garden [NGS] in pershore! big garden, used to be the vet's house ~ it was a bit like being on the set of all creatures great and small!!

Thats an attractive veg garden. Luckily I dont get rabbits, but dont you have to put the chicken wire into the ground so they dont go underneath?

its not my garden Drc so i cant really answer, i think you are right ~ maybe thats why the sleepers are there ~ would that help?
perhaps its a preventative or a slow-them-down solution rather than completely sealing them out???
if their dogs are outside i cant imagine many rabbits would brave the garden at the same time???

I have read on here that they burrow under fences and chicken wire is needed about a foot down?

Nothing much stays in the garden with the dogs outside!

We have them too, but they are too far from the place I live. Asparagus is very, very good :))

they have stalls or shops by the road side [some are garden centres] but there are also signs along the road, last year i went to get the freshly picked bunches ~ delicious!!

What do you do from it, Sticki? I once ate a very delicious asparagus cream soup at Italians in London. So goood :))

mostly, especially when its so fresh i either simmer it for a short while and serve it with butter and black pepper or a little bit of mayonnaise [easier than the traditional hollandaise] or sometimes put it in a griddle pan with a little olive oil!

...and you add it to meat? As we use it as vegetable garnish to meat. Or we serve it as rolls made from turkey ham and inside is asparagus and horseraddish.

sometimes it can be a starter or it is a veg with meat, and yes i have also done it with ham wrapped round it, and i think you can serve it with a poached egg too.

My daughter's mother-in-law lives just outside Pershore. It is beautiful round there.

This was one of about 20 gardens that were open for the weekend, it's a really good event if you happen to be near enough. I think tea was served in the school hall but in this garden you could taste home made cider!!

The rabbits that live around here would jump that easily I've watched them in our garden,also it's amazing how small a hole they can get through we had some chicken wire that was no more than an inch or two wide across each hole and was surprised to see a fully grown rabbit dive straight through it Drc is right about having to dig the wire deep into the ground they burrow underneath . We didn't have this problem when we had our lovely old dog so that could be the answer , I wonder if you can buy a toy that makes a woof in the garden like you can those frogs that croak :o)

I wonder why they have put that fence there then ~ do you think its just a preventative to their dogs, oh............ I know ~ they have geese and ducks too! [geese that chase you!] maybe its to stop them?

Well, I might if I have any success! I wonder if children would have any problems perceiving them - I think young ones might. Not that I am any longer in a position to show them to a class! It might have been interesting, though...You know - "Can you tell what it is yet?" :-)

I like those! I shall definitely have to work on some. I think, though, you have to be the sort of person who can draw cartoon-type things, and I was never one of those! It's all to do with perception!

im sure you are right ~ its fun looking at them though, some of those are 3D which is definitely beyond me ~ maybe i could have a go at things like the fish!!

Very neat garden but if the wildlife wants to get in it will. Rabbits dig deep holes. Love your little character rabbits Sticki.

What a brilliant garden. It makes mine look like a builders' yard. Still, we pulled the first of our leeks yesterday, and messy surroundings or not, it tasted wonderful! We have all sorts of Heath Robinson protection around our vegetable garden to guard against hungry wildlife, and even the cats demonstrate just how easy it is to either push it over or jump over it, so I'm not sure why we're bothering. Luckily we don't have rabbits at all, or I think it could be a different story. I'm sure you're right about the underground protection Denise.
Loads of people grow asparagus round here, and we have a couple of weeks in early summer where we and everyone else eat STACKS of it, but nothing compares to the beautiful, sweet English version.
Sticki, I LOVE your virtual rabbits - that must have taken you a little while and a LOT of concentration.
Time to get out into the sunshine and spike the lawn and pull out all those weeds!
