Oak Apple Galls

Oak Apple Galls

Saw these on the way back from the wood today and was intrigued by them, having no idea what they were, three little balls seemingly 'glued' to an oak leaf. Google to the rescue - each ball contains a parasitic wasp apparently so they are now safely in the garden :)

People are collecting strange things, Gee, I think I would bring this one from the wood too. It looks like three nuts for Cinderella :) in fact these are three wasps for Cinderella :)

We use to look out for these when we were kids Gee and those furry ' Pin Cushions ' on wild rose bushes !

They used to be common around here but I haven't seen them for years.

nice pic, and interesting caption. Maybe the rise in use of pesticides is having a knock-on effect on the numbers?

A great find, they look very Autumnal and almost edible, but I think not! with Wasps inside lol
