I wonder why that is Paul I have them growing round my shrubs they have also spread from there onto the gravel garden path there's no stopping them perhaps they like Norfolk soil ! Thanks Ph , I hope so Kat it can't come soon enough .......

I just cannot plant bulbs - except iris and some daffs - I am hopeless at them - but I will buy some when they are done by garden centre

Wow, what a treat on these cold late winter days, looks beautiful Amy, yes mine disappeared too Paul...:((. I've a feeling where they were was too dark and wet....especially if they are enjoying your gravel path Amy!

Our garden got very flooded - sorted it now by drainage points - but washed them out - plus a damn squirrel digs bulbs up

That's a shame Paul, I forget about these early flowering perennials when summers here, saying that though, I don't think I've room for them in the dry sunny(?) side.
I always wish we had squirrels here, but damaging your plants and digging bulbs up must be very annoying!

it is a bit - love wildlife - and i will never bother with bulbs again - just wait til they're ready at garden centre

Thats quite a sight.Bought about a hundred in the green few years ago think I have three,I am doing something wrong.

So you too Bjs, I'm wondering if they have rotted with the cold and wet springs this last few years?
16 Feb, 2013
not one for me - also planted a good fair few -

do have some crocus coming up and iris - but nothing of anything else - even the daffs are rubbish this year

Janey could be,A garden a mile away from me has had them for years growing on a steep wooded bank and they thrive there so maybe drainage has a bearing on it.
I don't think it's the only thing sitting in water that will not reappear.

It could be the wet thats the problem Paul / Janey, mine are sheltered around and under the shrubs, the wood in my pic. above is quite dry and sheltered I suppose all that leaf /debris would act rather like gravel for drainage ... we have squirrel problems as well Paul they dig up the lawn looking for the nuts they've buried .. I'm glad you have sorted out your drainage , a local couple had a photo in the newspaper this week showing their back garden looking like a swimming pool it's been like it for this last year and has been coursed by new houses being built at the bottom of their garden some one didn't take into account how much it would affect neighbouring properties ,it seems nobody will take responsibility for it , they keep passing it from one person to another , it looks awful !

shame Amy :( some people can't be bothered with it . I dug out a load of soil underneath the gravel path with stepping stones and threw in 3 bucket full of rubble - and the water now all runs into it - no longer sits in a pool but straight down - luckily we have very sandy soil 4 ft down too

You've done a good job of it Paul ,that should be the end of the problem , if it rains heavily it runs down our drive which slopes downwards towards our garage and has been known to fill the drive needing wellies to walk out there is a drainage system in it but sometimes it blocks with silty stuff and leaves that gets washed down with the rain ... this is the same drainage pipe that blocked under our lawn in my blog last year when we had to dig the lawn up to free it ! two pipe joined under the lawn making it a mammoth task .....

My little aconites are slowly spreading, Amy, so nice to see. Your wood is more advanced than mine although there are signs of bluebell leaves pushing through quite extensively now :)

They must have been a wonderful sight.

I found some seedlings from mine yesterday luckily they're in the wood so don't get disturbed or I could see me accidently weeding them out.

Beautiful Amy, must be amazing to see. Yours in my garden are really settling now, I have them under my acer crimson king tree, they seem happy there, looks like I'll be able to split them soon and get some in the woodland. :-)
