Oh my word - what a beautiful photo in the sunshine :)) Are you going stir crazy, Gattina?! at least we're just down to flurries now, but still 1.5 degrees. Grrrr . . .

Looks like the new wellies with thick socks will be very useful in those conditions , Gattina .

Pretty!!

I am sorry for the load of snow you are getting Gattina but the picture is stunning.

Beuatiful picture!

Thank you, everyone. It is pretty, isn't it? 30 minutes later we had yet another lot. Yes, Sheila, we are getting stir crazy - we can't get out of the house at the moment, and the night time temperatures are a bit on the chilly side, but the forecast is looking better after tomorrow. The daytime ones are hovering at about 0° at the moment, but when things DO start to warm up, they usually do it quite quickly. Let's hope we can escape by next Friday - I'm supposed to be driving OH to the airport! At the moment we can't even see the car. Driad, the new wellies are VERY useful, and have been getting a lot of wear, but at the moment I can't wear them, 'cos the snow is too deep, and comes over the tops! At least it is nowhere as bad as it was this time last year.

How about some waders gattina?
24 Feb, 2013
When this lot melts, Sticki, it might have to be a small boat.
24 Feb, 2013
I agree with all it is a very beautiful photo Gattina :o)
25 Feb, 2013
not the snow boat to china?
25 Feb, 2013

A very beautiful photo Gat !
25 Feb, 2013
Such lovely photos, but I guess you will be relieved when things warm up a bit!
25 Feb, 2013
That's a bit of an understatement, Mel! At the moment, the sun is shining and everything looks SOOOOOO beautiful, and I can appreciate it, but not for long, thank you very much. I want warmth, and clear roads, and blue skies, and things growing, and not having to light the stove every day, which means a much cleaner house...etc., etc., etc..... Above all, being able to get out and walk around and getting some fresh air and exercise.
26 Feb, 2013
Absolutely Gattina . . . our long cold spell here is putting me off doing what WAS a daily walk. But I can't sit here any longer: will wrap up and go OUT, and find someone to smile at (risky or what?!). x

Our dear neighbour Franco, entirely unasked, has just come and cleared our drive for us with his tractor, and disappeared without even waiting to be thanked. There is a delightful community spirit round here: we just worry that there's so little we can do in return for anyone. We are very blessed. (I just hope that one day he and his wife aren't so ill that they can't milk their cows and ask us to help out....... )
26 Feb, 2013
Bet you're a good neighbour to him and give him a nice smile once in a while?! What a lovely gesture . . . :))
26 Feb, 2013
I shall be trotting up the hill tomorrow with a bottle of home-made nocino liqueur and a VERY big smile. I do hope he likes it. It's difficult offering very food-conscious Italians home-made goodies, but I'm sure they wouldn't criticise it to my face. It's the thought that counts. I hope. I'm secure in the knowledge that it'll NEVER be as good as Mamma makes.
26 Feb, 2013
You couldn't get out to be involved with the elections , then , Gattina .
There seems to be "trouble a't mill ".
Stay warm , both of you .
26 Feb, 2013
Home-made liqueur sounds good to me, Gattina. I'm sure they'll be delighted. Our neighbour is Italian - a retired restaurant owner, which rather underlines your point. We are occasionally tormented by the beautiful aromas that waft over the wall!
26 Feb, 2013
Although we're entitled to vote in local elections, since we aren't Italian citizens (rather than just residents), we aren't allowed to vote in National elections, Driad. It's all very disheartening. We've had "Trouble at t'mill", politically speaking, for generations now, the problem is that there seems no desire to put it right, and the country is dying. All the brightest and best are leaving for other countries. Even we are thinking about it, as is our daughter.
27 Feb, 2013
That's sad - and startling news Gattina . . . where would you go?!
27 Feb, 2013
Not sure, Sheila - still thinking about it.
27 Feb, 2013
Gattina...your photos are wonderful, so picturesque, nevertheless I'm sure you've had enough of it by now. The idea of waders made me laugh..but perhaps a sleigh with reindeer would be more useful!
The politics in most countries have their problems, so you might just swop one set of problems for another. Anyway how could you possibly think of leaving such wonderful scenery and such generous neighbours? I'd swop places with you tomorrow, if I could. You live in the country of my dreams.
27 Feb, 2013
It is certainly one that I love , too , Gattina .
May be this comedian will be a saviour . ( And what about Il Papa ?)
27 Feb, 2013
Maybe, Driad, it would be better if I didn't start to air my opinions on il Papa, or any of the comedians in this country. I'd probably receive a visit from men in dark glasses.
28 Feb, 2013
I tried to picture all your snow in my mind but had no idea it was quite as bad as this! Hopefully it is melting as I write this!
28 Feb, 2013
Yes, it is, Chris - very satisfyingly so, too. I ventured out today and was driving further up the mountain where there is still a lot of very deep snow, and had to slow down to go past a marvellous machine that cuts its way through banks of snow by the side of the road, and shoots it all about 20 metres away over the fields. UNFORTUNATELY, there were cars parked(abandoned?) by the side, completely covered and hidden by the snow, and this monster had chewed off the side of one of them - opened it as if with a tin-opener. Both doors gone, and probably more. There was an awful lot of shouting and gesturing going on. I wonder whose insurance is going to have to cover that one?
28 Feb, 2013
Oh dear, the owners must have been horrified. I can just imagine the scene!

Quelle horreur (et domage ).
1 Mar, 2013
I remember when my parents lived up on the Yorkshire moors and had to abandon their car on the road they were told to contact the snow plough people to tell them where it was so that it wouldn't be damaged. It was completely covered, but not damaged, thankfully.
4 Mar, 2013
Ah, well, you see, Mel, those snow-plough drivers were British........ I rest my case.
4 Mar, 2013
Mmmm....yes.
5 Mar, 2013
Gattina you are so simpatica! how many time did you spent in Utaly? Where do you live?
4 Jun, 2013
Grazie, Cara! We have lived here for nearly 8 years in a place called Rocca di Roffeno at 600m up in the Appennines. (Tra Vergato e Castel D'Aiano)
You won't believe this, but snow fell not very far from here on Thursday night (30/31 May) I'll post a picture to prove it.
