AIR TRAINING CORPS ... ... well organised and tidy !

AIR TRAINING CORPS ... ... well organised and tidy !

At a recent dog show and fête, I was impressed to see the Air Training Corps voluntarily checking a large area for litter ... efficiently and quietly ...

They were setting a wonderful example.

With these young people as our future, the country is in good hands.

ATC .. well done !

Hi Dotty .. thanks..
so much litter around these days ..
this was refreshing to see :o)))

Well, TT, I doubt any army in the future will bring happiness to us. Farmers definitely will.

These young people were very pleasant to talk to, and the grass area looked immaculate when they'd finished clearing the litter. :o)

totally agree Terra, i get fed up with litter in the lanes near me, people just throw it out of their car windows with not a care for anyone or wildlife.

I thought that guy from Virgin was supposed to be encouraging everyone to 'bin it'. I think the kids are good citizens but should we be asking them to clean up after other people. Anybody got any ideas on how to stop litterbugs. I dk how to use my phone camera but there are plenty of people who can. My suggestion is that you take a photo of the culprit and send it to your local paper for publication. Any other suggestions welcome. I was born and brought up in the country and there was not the litter available to throw around but we did take biscuit wrappers, crisp packets etc. home with us.

Well done to ATC lots of good young people about - nice that you give credit where it's due TT :o)

Scotsgran@I was taught the same when I was a girl and we went to long trips to mountains. In mountains everybody is asked to take his/her rubbish with him/her. Nobody notifies in towns or large settlements.
Yesterday I learned there was established special service in Vienna. Men (and women also?) are guarding in streets and parks, if dog owners clean excrements of their dogs as it should be. If not, they pay either fine or there is official discussion with them. Sounds good. What surprised me was the salary on this amble. 1500 euros. That is the salary which hardly get associated professor of medicine in Slovakia with 30 years of a good practice. I think physicians will again start to re-think the change of their jobs, lol.

Thanks Sandra and Neena ...
this photo is just to illustrate that there are plenty of young people out there doing good in the world .. :o)

If only there weren't so many layabouts chucking the litter about in the first place!!

28 Apr, 2013

Hi Shirl .. good point .. :o)))

28 Apr, 2013

My apologies Tt I did not mean to hijack your blog. I think 99.9% of young people are good and decent but go near any secondary school after a lunch break and its not layabouts who have discarded the litter its those same nice kids. We have some good designers on this site maybe someone could design a litter bin that can't be raided by birds. They are usually the culprits where litter bins are used. Katarina we have dog wardens here too. Dog owners can get Poop scoops from and bins for disposing of your little bag are provided by our local authority. You do need to provide your own bags but most dog owners have responded well to the encouragement to 'bin it'.

Hi Scotsgran ..
Litter disposal is a problem and designs of litter bins range from practical to almost useless .. those bins where on windy days the litter all blows out of the bin !

Yes, many dog owners are now very good about using poop bags. At the fête show ground I didn't see any poop lying around ... the litter was mostly paper which had been blown about.

Another use for our phone cameras then. To show pics of effective wind and bird proof bins. Our council stopped supplying bins in car parks where they caused problems, instead there are big notices telling people to take their litter home with them. It works better than the litter bins on the whole.

A lot of these youngsters will not go on to join the military, it could just as well been the scouts litter picking. I think these organistions teach many skills that in normal life are not taught today.
Such as care for the enviroment, for your fellow man ( or woman :0) self discipline etc.

As to the tides of rubbish, often from fast food outlets, these thrown from car windows litter our country lanes as well as towns and cities.
The bins are maybe near the stores but the rubbish travels far and wide.....
Rubbish does accumulate at most events, this windy weather doesn't help, who hasn't sat with a plastic cuppa and chased after the empty cup and pates.......

Hi Pam..
yes.. you're right that the windy weather is not helping the litter problem !

We find that the dustbin men themselves leave a trail of rubbish behind them down our lane , we have also heard there are plans for a mcD. not too far away from us I'm dreading the rubbish thrown out onto the motor way verges if or when the plans are passed ...

28 Apr, 2013

Hello Amy ...
yes .. trails of rubbish after the bin collections ..
that does happen sometimes ...
I hope you don't get litter from fast food outlets !!!

Well done lads.

Thanks Mariamasom :o)

Well done them!
We could do with them down here to tidy up the hedgerows by the main roads, it makes me so sad to see all the litter lying there.

29 Apr, 2013

Unfortunately many times round here there is dog poop in bags just left down on the pavement. Also on an estate in Melksham near friends, with dogs bins at intervals close to, these bags were hanging from the bushes and thrown into a pretty hedgerow. I challenged recently and was sworn at. I stood my corner. So far, since the challenge, there are no more bags. Do these dog owners not realise they are giving authorities excuses for park bans and beach bans, so that better behaved owners are penalised for their bad behaviour.

I have come across this too( plastic bags hanging from bushes in the countryside). It's so silly as it would rot down if on the ground under the bushes, without bag. Instead the bags just hang there, forever. Stupid!

Yes ... lots of litter around the country..
.. of all sorts ...

I was impressed that the ATC left
this little piece of England clean and tidy...
Well done to them. :o)

Yes.. a lot of litter is caused by paper being blown about from all sorts of containers.. Well done you, Homebird, on keeping track of the waste trucks.

3 May, 2013

i find the discarded full poop bags really annoying ,i do 2 mile walk every morning over the fields ,i cannot believe people pick up the mess & bag it then throw it into the field or first tree they see .. morons rant over lol
