They are lovely but mine went absolutely mad in my garden and spread everywhere, taking over everything else.
I am still trying to get rid of them after two years!!
Same as the blue, white, and pink bells (bluebells) not our native ones, which were here when we moved in in 1965!
I love them in the spring, but there are toooo many for an ordinary garden and I dig some up every year after they have finished flowering - still I have hundreds!!!!

Bjs, This is your typical peony "bush" , very well behaved and because the flowers are single they hold up very well, Although, I do put a string around the leaves in early stage. I have 2 of them. They are not very tall...3 ft at max. These were here before we moved in so I do not know the name.

Shirlwhirl, Are you sure you are talking about peonies and not poppies? Peonies do not seed or spread the way you are describing (I wish they did). Poppies do. And I agree with you on the bluebells. Too many in my garden as well. Peonies have beautiful green leaves and it is an attractive plant long after the flower is gone.

In one word "Gorgeous!" I wish I could grow these here!

Yes I think I have got it wrong Klahanie looking at your picture more closely.
What I had were very similar looking and similar colour, but not so big and blousey! (and not half so pretty!)
I seem to remember now, they might have been Japanese Anemones? .... and it didn't appear to be seeds so much, as runners spreading. I have no flowers now to take any photos of, but I still have persistent shoots coming up all the time!
I try to pull them out as soon as I can get a good grip on them!! I shall have another go at digging them out later, but at the moment there are bluebells and other things growing closely in the same place!

:-)))
oh, yes Japanese Anemones. That is what you are describing Shirlwhirl. That make sense .Different plant. I have them as well and they do spread.

Delonix1, I wish I could grow Jacarandas and Palm trees :-))))

Jacarandas - I do wish they grew here! They are so beautiful when in bloom. I have only seen them when on holiday in Greece.

Thanks Holly.
Shirlwhirl, you are fine on this page. Delonix would like to grow peonies and cannot (wrong climate) and I want to grow Jacarandas and cannot (wrong climate). And you also would like to grow jacarandas and cannot because your climate is similar to ours. Clear as mud?
:-)))) XoX

Delonix and me seem to be in the same boat... and shirlwhirl and Klahanie in the other...

Yes, all...we definitely have limitations to our climates. The cooler climates have their very interesting, beautiful flowering plants/trees and us in the tropics/subtropics have our beautiful flowering trees/shrubs. Unfortunately, we can't it all in one climate (maybe one day, though).

totally.. I would have to install an AC if i had to grow Peonies.. am not sure if an AC would suffice i would probably need a giant size fridge.

Lovely Peonies! The white Japanese anemones are nice I think, tho' I believe that they spread also but perhaps not so rapidly & so easier to control.

I'm afraid they won't get the chance in my garden again, Feverfew, white or any other colour!
I am having enough trouble clearing the ones I have. They were nice till they took over everything else!! Now they are a pest! :((

I can't imagine living where you live and not having A/C! I would die of heatstroke! Almost everyone here in inland San Diego has A/C. All inland areas of California, new houses must be built (by ordinance) with central A/C.

Thank you everyone for your comments.

Lol... I meant AC in the garden... But actually I live in a mountainous area so it's cooler than the rest of the southern and central India... I have a lot of rain.. A min temp of 2 degrees centigrade in winter and a maximum of 40 centigrade in summer...

Okay, now I understand! LOL! :>)
It must be so lush and green where you live. To have a lots of rain is terrific! You definitely don't have to be concerned about drought.
Where I from (originally) in Honolulu, Hawai'i. It's in a district in the hills (tropical rainforest) and rains every night...everything is always so lush and green. :>)
