Just so beautiful :O) I cannot keep clematis growing in my garden for some reason. There are a few which survive but many that have given up the ghost on me. But this is so pretty I love it :O)

You wouldn't have that problem with any of the Montana group Mum, or the Alpina/macropetala group, or the viticella group. It's usually the group 2 clems that are unreliable...the large summer flowering ones, and also the new Zealanders...the evergreen Atragenes. They aren't so hardy.

...and the reason you are losing them is most likely slugs and snails and/or drought. They need water, and a good feed.

I can grow the Montanas, but yes I think it is the lack of water at this side of the country which has hastened the departure of most of my clematis. If they do grow they are always weak and weasly, after saying that I have one on the side of the chicken house which is doing well and another on the end of the old aviary also doing well. But not going to replace any as I have spent enough money and energy on them.

Lovely healthy clematis DD, just at its best.

Hi Dorjac! Mum, I feel the same way. I had fAR too many to care for before. From now on I'm only going to have a few very reliable ones, not too many to water, feed and tie in!

Beautiful, definitely a star!

Amazingly large & beautiful blooms.

Just fed our clematis, Yours are well in advance of ours DD. Our small ones are in bloom but the larger flowered ones are still in small buds at the moment. You have to watch out for clematis wilt at this time of year where they wilt over and a fungicide spray or systemic fungicide spray needs to be sprayed over the whole plant.

Beautiful!!!!, I've just bought this one to grow over an arbour, looks a lovely colour, I was hoping it didn't look to much like 'Marjorie' which I already have and it does look different :-)

Simbad this is nothing like Majorie, we used to grow that one, a real charmer....
Lindak the wind is playing havoc with them at the moment, just when they were doing so well....
Thanks to Feverfew, Gee, K, Dorjac, Olive, Amy, Olive, and Alan.......we have far too many clems, has taken me ages to tie them all in, and now the wind is just knocking them for six.........hey ho!!

The wind has been awful tossing all the plants backwards and forwards DD. The weather people say that at the end of the week it's going to turn warmer and better. We've tied up a few of our tall plants for now and I've tried to protect the peas from the sparrows too as they have been nibbling at them.

That's good news then Dd, really looking forward to it next year after seeing yours, its loving all the rain of the last few days and has already started climbing :-)

It certainly has been windy. Our unpruned Hawthorn is loaded with bright red blossom. It has been tossing its ruby locks about for 2 or three days now. The wood pigeons have given up trying to 'ride the bucking bronco' to eat the blossoms. They ate a lot off the top before all this started. Horrible weather for May, last 3 days, but the rain is welcome. I'm afraid it's going to get a haircut late autumn early winter.

The Hawthorn has been smelling lovely and sweet. My neighbour has a Hawthorn hedge and there are sparrows nesting in there.
