It's taking ages for the roses and Clematis to grow over it ..

So natural looking and it leads you through to the other part of your garden, it really will be stunning when the Clematis and Roses cover it;0)

Nice Arch Amy, and framing a lovely view. Climbing roses are frustrating aren't they...they take ages to establish, but eventually they do romp up!

Thanks all that is kind of you , I've planted large shrubs on either side of the arch a philadelphus and a Chaenomeles so that eventually you will have to look through rather than round the sides ..at the far end is an arch leading through the Holly trees to the veg garden ..

Your garden looks amazing Amy, love this. Glad Karen said climbing roses take a while to establish because mine have but finally are getting going. Love the arch, what brand is it Amy, I'd like to get one for my Mum. Will be exciting when the shrubs have disgusted the sides.

I'm glad you like it Dawn we bought it at a garden center if I remember correctly I think it was a guardsman ... next year should see a big difference with the shrubs at the sides they've already grown a lot !

We have half an acre ,It takes a lot of looking after Keith!

Half an acre! You could probably fit in all 900+ Salvia species then!

The arch looks great, Amy. I have planted a clematis and one of those plants that you have with the pink patch on the leaf (can't for the life of me remember what it is at the moment but think it is a member of kiwi family?)

Thanks Amy, my obelisks are Gardman, quality products.

I know which one you mean Gee ... Actinidia :o)) You're welcome Dawn !

That's it, Amy! I thought the leaves had developed white patches the other day but, unfortunately, it was bird droppings! My new arch has become a playground for the jackdaws, pigeons, etc, etc :)

LOL ... I shouldn't laugh it's not funny ! and don't they make a mess ,I have a seat under one arch there's no way you could ever sit on it !
8 Jul, 2014
They do make a mess but it is worth it for the entertainment value - I have had hours of fun watching all the different babies arrive with doting (and tired) parents. There seems to be lots of fledglings of all sorts this year.

The birds are very busy here to , this morning I had a blackbird following me it knows I can never refuse to give it meal worms I've been watching it stuffing its mouth and taking it up into a Liquid Amber tree I thought it had another nest but when I looked I could just about see up into the branches and there was quite a big baby sitting on a branch in fact it looks big enough to feed itself ,no wonder its mum has been following me around for more ! I've also been picking Raspberries and throwing the not so nice ones down ,they love them !

That looks splendid Amy, love the view......we could do with half an acre with the amount of plants we have in this garden........

Thanks Angela it takes a lot of keeping up with also it gets harder the older we get ! a visiting friend suggested we should open it like you but I don't think we could put up with the pressure of always having it look nice we enjoy it as a hobby ...
9 Jul, 2014
It is a lot of pressure, but Peter and I are very keen gardeners so it is a labour of love...

We love it Angela and have often talked of down sizing but would miss terribly the space around us , I dread becoming like our elderly neighbor who couldn't cope after letting his become overgrown he has finally moved out to a place with small garden ... he was an expert gardener I miss his advice !
10 Jul, 2014
Yes it will become a problem for us, because ours is very labour intensive, we must spend at least 3-4 hours a day looking after the plants...
13 Jul, 2014
I imagine it must take all of that time to keep it in perfect condition more probably in the summer because you can't help pottering about in the evenings as well ... you can't count time when you are doing something you love and then see the beautiful results afterwards can you :o)

What an amazing cottage garden archway it puts my poor little arch in my yard to shame.Still at least I have a garden again until i moved here 3 years ago i had nothing.after doing my flat up I've just spent the last of my savings doing my yard up ...getting the basics in ...so...now I'm flat broke but very happy a nice home and the beginnings of a little oasis for one (or 2 at a push)..lol
