He's magnificent. Funny isn't it how in humans it's the girls who have the colours whereas in animals and birds it's often the other way around?

Exciting, pleased he's brought Mrs along. I've no idea where/how pheasants nest, lets hope they appear one day with a brood.

Hope Charlie and his missus aren't as stupid as the pheasants up here. They usually wait for a car then walk across the road en mass.

He's been back a few weeks Sandra but his Mrs has only just returned ,I often think how strange that is Waddy all the men do here today is grow great big silly fluffy beards they do nothing for me !Carole I'll send them your way for the summer months ,Thanks Klahanie /Kathy i'm always relieved to see them after the shooting season
Dawn I think they nest in the overgrown bramble field in front of us You can hear them clacking away to each other I would like to see their young to ,Mr & Mrs C . return every year but we have never seen the young I guess they are sent off to fend for themselves .. Linda that could be why they feel safe here we haven't a road near us we have a rough track to walk before reaching a road ,Montjac deer and ducks make their homes in the undergrowth of the bramble field ....

We saw babies one year think like you say Amy they were nesting in brambles at the bottom of our garden mum actually came in the garden with these 4 babies waddling behind her soooo cute, only saw them the one time though.

I would love Charlie & Mrs to bring them into our garden Kathy but I do wonder if our fencing keeps youngsters out something odd is doing its duty in our garden we can't decide what it is the garden is well fenced in and under wired to keep out rabbits and Muntjacs and yet there's often big dropping like dogs we can't think what can be doing it ,any ideas ?

A Muntjac is a small Deer Marquerite , we don't have Kangaroos in U.K except maybe in Zoos I'm sure if we had one it would be front page news on TV ... Charlie came into the garden this evening at exactly the time I feed the birds he's getting wise he knows when to come , I'm wondering if Mrs C. is sitting on eggs ...

Seriously. Not road kill - a mate of mine is a tree surgeon in some commercial woods and part of his job is keeping all the different Bambis under control. He's a cracking shot too, one bullet straight through the head every time. The best way by far if we're honest.

Well I guess its no different to us eating venison ,You'r right a good shot is the best way if it has to be done , Those tree surgeons frighten the life out of me when we had them in our garden I couldn't watch , My step-brother years ago went up a tree with a chainsaw let it drop and took the muscle off the back of his leg he was in hospital in an oxygen tent for ages , I believe they cut out much quicker today !

We do have foxes here Kathy but like you say the lane is awash with rabbits ,how high can they jump we have a five bar metal farm gate at the front its 4ft high covered in wire mesh to stop rabbits etc. getting in but on the other hand OH has just said they could have come up the ditch on one side of our garden they are craftier than Muntjacs !

Meanie you do make me laugh, this was how we were bought up, anything that moved on the farm we ate!! except when our Pop started rearing greyhounds lol although when he got to his 70s he stopped shooting the Pheasants, because he thought they were too beautiful to shoot anymore...
We have wild boar for dinner, no!! we didn't kill it, a pressies from eldest daughter part of Mothers Day foodie gift from Lidl lol

DD - bunnies need shooting so why not eat them rather than burn them. That was how we were bought up too. Wildlife are nothing more than pests to the food producers but free food if you look at it sensibly.
We never ate fox though and they were shot on sight wherever they were.

had a very pretty little red fox come tripping down our driveway...he must have come down from the hill behind our house at our backdoor. Reddy was heading for the road lots of chickens up the hill, wild turkeys and the squirrels are very plentiful this winter...they are fed at the bird feeder while the poor foxes, deer and mice must catch as catch can.

It could be Lori , have you finished the Moose shooting season , also do you eat the wild Turkeys ? we were all brought up like that in the country Meanie anything and everything the only thing stopping us from shooting rabbits up the lane here is Mixi .. we have witnessed some suffering OH puts them out of their misery I must say I couldn't do it ! as kids we would even go out to the pits with a spoon tied to a long pole to hook Moor hens eggs out of their nests my father liked them I didn't ever try one ....

I asked that "out there" question because I'm enjoying "Downton Abbey"on DVDs. Mr. Charlie Carson is the butler and Mrs. Elsie Hughes is the Housekeeper. They've become an item in the new season. ergo...Charlie and Elsie.
Don't eat wild meat at all... don't eat much meat period.

My OH won't eat rabbit because of the mixi, but I love it and hare, love a game casserole!!

Lovely pheasant, I hope he breeds successfully with his new lady friend. The poo may well be a fox, and they take our fat balls sometimes.

Thanks Linda there was another lot yesterday if it is a fox it must either jump the gate or come from the ditch side which has wire fencing the ditch has quite a drop which means it would have to come up the side of it and then jump but then they are agile aren't they ?

Fox's leap over wooden fences and as you say Amy they are very agile. I say we have to live alongside the wild animals as we have taken their space. They have had to adapt to houses and gardens for some of their territory.
