Hyacinths

I received this potted hyacinth from friends yesterday afternoon. Looking forward to seeing the colour(s) when the flowers bloom!
I’ve been very lucky to have been gifted flowers and plants from friends during recent weeks. The yellow rose behind the hyacinth planter - I will probably plant out in the garden.
The hyacinth planter has no drainage - I do have a ‘care’ leaflet, but, if anyone has further advice, I’d be grateful.

Thank you Sheila, I’m missing all of them, I have to say..
Yes, the leaflet did say water only occasionally. :-))

Lovely gift. Just be careful not to overwater Kate. Sometimes you might have to support the flowers with a small stick and some string, After the bulbs have finished flowering, transfer them to the garden, or let the leaves die back and remove the bulbs from the compost and dry off until next year.

I love to have a pot of hyacinths in the house. Yours is a really lovely present. I agree about them needing support when they are in full flower as they get a bit top heavy.

Thank you both, Paul and Mossy. They are starting to bloom now :-))

What nice gifts! I plant out my hyacinths after they flower and they are just coming up in the border now. Sadly, no indoor ones this year.

Thank you, Ange! I think this is my plan now for next year. Outdoor hyacinths! What colour are your garden hyacinths?

Thats the best place for it Kate I ve had some of mine in big pots no room left in the garden at present . Is yours a patio rose they look lovely in a nice pot but you have to keep topping up with mulch .

I've got all sorts of colours, Kate, mostly ones I've been given as gifts. The flower heads are less 'bunched' as they continue over the years, but the scent is still the best. I love the blue ones. I did see a fabulous dark purple in a National Trust house arrangement, once. Absolutely stunning!

Thanks Dawn. Yes it’s a patio rose I believe. I was thinking of maybe putting it into a bigger pot in the garden?

Ange, they sound wonderful! I did wonder about blue - however, the colour is coming out now and they are a pale pink.
I’d love to see a dark purple like you mentioned - I can imagine this would be a striking hyacinth!

I used to have a dark purple one in my old garden ... it was called Beetroot!

Yes that is the trouble perhaps a sheltered place out side would be best.

What a lovely gift Kate ... your friends like you a lot.
Shame about no drainage, I guess only water occasionally?
