I'd popped to my daughter's to feed her pets and spied her beautiful Corkscrew Hazel. It's looking especially beautiful this year, with so many catkins..

Yes very vibrant yellow. In Mums garden was a weeping forsythia, very old. I remember it as a small child and it was still in the garden when her house sold.

Lovely to see the catkins Janey. They are very long this year. We have a hazel like this one in a large pot and it's been in there for a long time. Lovely tree to have.

Lovely. I've recently bought one of these so I hope it grows to look as good as this.

I get a few hazelnuts on my tree in the Autumn.

Thanks Sheila, it was such a tiny thing when she planted it..:)
It's not too attractive in the summer Paul, the leaves twist and turn too, but once they've fallen, the structure is amazing..
I was only thinking earlier Linda, a smaller one in a pot would be fabulous too!
I'm sure it will Ange, I think this one must be 12ft tall and maybe 15 years old. Such a beautiful tree, you'll love it!
Do you Linda? Are they edible?

Yes, I only get a few but crunch them into a scone mix.

You're right about the appearance of the tree in the summer, Janey. We used to pull the leaves off to reveal the lovely twisty branches!

Janey there are recipes on the internet with using hazelnuts, for cooking cakes and biscuits. Hope this helps Linda x

These trees are always very interesting - once the leaves fall off! This is a lovely example!
Brings bask to mind when we lived in Cuenca, Spain. One year, (possibly 40 years ago now!), 100s of these trees were planted all over the city. We were lucky enough to have some only a minute or two's walk from our flat & so I was able to watch them grow over many years. The last time we were in Cuenca, 6 years ago this month, for the burial of my mother-in-law, I was able to see some of the trees were still living!

Sorry to be a bit late answering Linda, that does sound a great idea! I've not thought of adding nuts to scone mixture, but I will try it now..:)
Yes, quite an unattractive tree then Sheila!
Hello Balc, I bet that was a beautiful sight, all those catkins, and to see some of the trees still, they obviously can cope with high temps in the summer months too..
