Old white Buddleia and Red Admiral

Janey

Old white Buddleia and Red Admiral

This old white buddleia was a real mess of so many stiff tall branches and crossing over thin ones, that I really pruned these out and left a much better shape which has produced some decent lateral branches with strong flowers.
The butterflies enjoy it and lovely to see so many Red Admirals this year..:o)

How lovely!

Thanks Klahanie, as long as it's kept in check, it's a lovely shrub, but blink your eyes and it's reaching for the heavens! The flowers are exceptionally large too. So pleased to see so many butterflies this year.

Thanks Sheila. It's on the shady side of the garden but still does well and lights the corner up too..

A beautiful picture, Janey! I've seen several white as well as other colours in people's gardens here. What I haven't seen much of is butterflies! Only one day this summer was I lucky enough to see 4 different spices in one day! The greater part of the time I just see the Large Cabbage White. But even they are a lot scarcer this year. I've hardly seen pairs at all! Most of the time I just see single ones. Other years their caterpillars eat the leaves on my Nasturtiums but this year I don't have any.

Lovely pic, Janey. I've one buddleia and it's a deep purple, seems to have re-energised again in the recent warm spell.

We have had lots of butterflies and bees on our buddlejas, too, Janey. There was nothing earlier in the summer. Even on the hydrangea, which I've never seen before. I like your white buddleja. They are very fresh-looking.

Lovely large white flowers on your buddleia, and so lovely to see the butterflies around. Yes, it does the bush good to prune it back after flowering. We haven't got room in our little garden for one but several people around here have them in their gardens.

Hi Balc, yes I have the white butterflies too and they seem.to be the only ones who's caterpillars eat anything at all in my garden even geranium leaves. I'm lucky there are quite a few Red Admirals enjoying the buddleia today, 6 in all!

Thank you Siris, it does, just like honey..:)

I hope you've butterflies too Kate, enjoying your buddleia

Thanks Julia.

I can't say I've seen any butterflies around hydrangeas either Ange. Maybe as in my garden, they're in the shade. Thanks Ange, yes the white with the silvery leaves does look nice.

Thank you Linda, the buddleias can.get quite unruly and grow so vigorously. If you prune them hard, the next flowers seem much larger.
