Congratulations! They’re wonderful winter flowering plants. In time they can get very large, though.

The bird-of-paradise in front yard is 12 ft wide and more than 6 ft tall. It’s probably over 40 years old.

Thanks, Andy! 👍 Thanks also for the info, I thought they flowered during the summer months! I really ought to do some research on them! I had no idea they could be so long living either!

This is the first time I've actually ever seen a flower from these plants! I've seen lots of pictures & on video but never "in the flesh" so to speak!

You’re welcome 😉

Bird-of-Paradise can live 150 plus years.

Bird-of-paradise is an extremely common plant in all the lower elevations of California. It’s planted everywhere and is very common as a median plant. It’s so widely used because it never needs water (although, it looks better with some water).

WOW! I never imagined they could live such a long time, Andy! 👍

I would guess there’s probably plants in their native habitat that are twice that age.

Thanks, Andy! That's really amazing! So my plant might not only outlive me but the great grandchildren of my great grandchildren!!! 😆 😆 😆

Yes, it’s amazing how long certain plants can live.

I have several plumeria trees, and they can live at least 800 years.
