I grew this from seed. The plant has a thinner stalk than the hybrid types, and the height is much shorter.

A beautiful Gladiolus, Wylie! 👏 👏 👏 How long did it take to flower from being sown?
26 May, 2024
It took 3 years from seed. Gladiolus seeds are easy to sow in the fall. They also like a dry summer, so I don't provide additional water.

Thanks for the info, Wylie! I've never attempted to grow them from seed but I have grown on bulbils.

They are easy, but what helps is a temperature difference between day and night. There are a lot of South African species that do well here, but are available only by seed. What is hard are lillies.

The only bulbs I've ever grown from seed are Amaryllis.
