A hardy variety and not Lady Boothby as previously thought.

Thanks Kate, Years ago Beryl and I had about 180-ish different varieties but most of them have died now. I think they followed B to the other side.
Can't advise about ants, except that I once bought an ant repellant and it made them go away. I can't remember what it was called. You put a few drops near the nest and they just went.

Thanks Hywel! I should've said any advice, so sorry. But, saying that, around both fuchsias there are LOTS of ants, marching on a mission..
Crikey, I'm impressed by your phenomenal amount of fuchsia varieties! Must've looked splendid. As you say, they may have followed Beryl..She'll be nurturing them on the other side.

I have this one from Shirley too and came through the winter well. Boothby was my Mum's maiden name.

Hywel, 'my' Lady Boothby is a well travelled plant!

So lovely to see the lovely flowers on this fuchsia! It used to be one of my favourite plants until a couple of years ago when I accidentality broke off the main stem. I took some cuttings from the branches but not a single one rooted! I was rather upset at the time & would still like to get a plant for the balcony again. Perhaps next year I'll look for a plant online. It's strange the cuttings didn't root because I seem to remember it was fairly easy as I'd rooted cuttings before. In fact the one I killed was one of my own cuttings that grew on the balcony for several years before the accident.
Yesterday I was watering the pots in my son's garden & brought home with me cuttings from several Fuchsias he has. But I don't think they will root as the wood is quite hard now. I got a cutting from "Genii" which is another fuchsia I particularly like.

I wasn't happy with the name of this and now I've decided it isn't Lady Boothby at all, it is actually 'Margaret' and identical with other Margarets I have in the garden. I've also compared it to photos of Lady Boothby and Margaret on line. I believe 'my' Lady Boothby has died.
I've amended the title.
I hope you're successful with your cuttings Balcony.

Hywel, I have looked again at 'Lady Boothby' and the corolla flowers are much darker. Well done on changing the name!

I don't know "Margaret" but she's lovely! 'Lady Boothby' has a very dark, almost black corolla.
As for the cutting I don't have any! 😥 The cutting I was talking about were the ones I took some years ago when I accidentally broke the main stem at almost ground level. None of them rooted! I have been without 'Lady Boothby' for a number of years now.
I'm thinking of getting some more Fuchsias for the balcony perhaps next year. I may get a 'Lady Boothby' then.

It's so pretty, Hywel. You've a smashing collection.
I lost this one last year! It was potted up and it hasn't appeared again... plus another fuchsia hasn't flowered this year. :-(
Ant advice most welcome.
