Danger!

Danger!

My daughter spotted this through the window and I sneaked out to take a picture (and to protect my little birds!!). It sat completely still on the roof for several minutes before disappearing. Lovely to see but glad it didn't dive into my garden. I think it's a sparrowhawk - please let me know if I'm wrong.

Yes it ia a sparrowhawk. I have also been lucky enough in the past to get pictures of these on my next door neighbours roof but not as clear as yours. Well done Gee.

What a brilliant photo well done Gee ... I have seen one holding down a pigeon in my garden , it would have killed it if I hadn,t frightened it off .. ...

He is beautiful - pity he has the killing instinct, but he can't help it, lol.

Agree...a beautiful bird, but lethal in the garden. We have one which patrols this area..only the other day found a pile of what looked like female blackbird feathers near the compost heap : (

Yes, I'm pretty sure this is a Sparrowhawk. I've spotted one a few times in our garden. But the firsdt time we were aware of him was when a collared dove crashed into our window as it was trying to get away. It frightened the life out of us! It's great to see them though because, afterall tht's how nature works. Great photo.

We have buzzards visiting too, took a pic today of one high in a willow tree quite close to where I feed the birds and a crow was stalking it - I know they are dangerous to the little birds, but how awful that they are hounded by crows all the time, guess they know how dangerous they are .

Great shot Gee. What a powerful looking creature. Raptors are all a class of their own. Glad it moved on.

I can't help having respect for these birds even though they cause havoc.
