Love that shot .... & I rather like the idea of having the birdbath at ground level, but cats coming & going all the time through the garden (mostly my neighbours) so I would be worried for the safety of the birds.
22 Sep, 2011
We have the problem of neighbours cats as well Dwyllis but they don't seem to attack the birds in the open garden they prefer to hide behind walls a shrubs to pounce on them Grrr......
22 Sep, 2011
thats just a cats natural hunting prowes . its primal amy . can you get them to put bells on there cats to give the birds a chance . i hope your well love and ill have to come and see you soon again ok . bye the way some arse stole my big red concrete mushrooms out of my front garden but i got the papers round so i should be in next weeks thetford and brandon times . take care see you soon xxx .
22 Sep, 2011
Oh Leigh , that is so sad and bad I can't believe the things some people will do .. we don't have the Thetford and Brandon newspapers you will have to keep it to show me next time you come round ...
We have been to France for 3 weeks we came home last Sunday it was a brilliant holiday ,very hot , hope to see you soon take care and I hope they catch your nasty thieves and return your lovely mushrooms ... xxx

lovely picture, and love the fountain/bath
The feature looks quite deep, do you have it filled in a bit inside to raise the "gound" level? the bird looks like it's standing on something.

Thank you Fran , this is the birds favourite bathing place ,they actually fight for space in it sometimes , the dish that you can see here cracked after last years frosts which meant we had to go out and buy another one of a similar size , we have a good layer of round stones inside it to save on water , I will try to find a photo of the newer dish to show you then I will come back to tell tou where it is ....
26 Feb, 2012
Fran if you look under my popular tags at the Animals then at Page 3 ..3rd row ...12 th pic. you will see a newer dish titled Snowball cooling off there's another one on Page 4 of a Song Thrush . :o)

Thanks, Amy, going straight there
thirty seconds later ... lovely pics, the pair of them! shows the depth, and how much it's appreciated. Thanks so much; I'm encouraged to have a go with what's to hand, can pretty it up later, depending on how well the locals like it.

Yes Jean or should I say My OH did.. LOL he's the strong one ... it's a plastic barrel cut in half with a pump inside ,cut off the top part of the left over barrel so that you have a lid invert the barrel lid to sit on top so that the water runs back inside ... cover with a heavy stone with a hole in the middle decorate with pebbles or anything else you would like . The birds love it .....can you understand that , does it make sense ? .....
8 May, 2012
No I didn't do a blog Jean , we made it long before I became a member of GOY ... every now and again we have to put a hose down to the barrel to refresh it because when there's a strong winding it blows the water away from the pot !

I'd love to have one like that too!

As you can see Hida this photo was taken in the icy winter of 2009 it's looking much better and prettier in the sunshine ( which we do have at long last ) :o)
