Getting Ready for Our Open Day

We have just over a week til our town open gardens day on 7th August! Why does there seem to be more jobs to do when the day is closer?!
I was even up before dawn yesterday cos I couldn’t sleep-I hope it wasn’t all to do with worry-probably the heat and my headache! Anyway I was able to get in the garden at 6.30 which was really a lovely time, peaceful and calming…
Even the cat agrees!!
I have to just finish planting some annuals, some perennials that have been bought as extra colour-this time of year can be lacking in colour can’t it. The paths need tidying & sweeping partic the one thru the vegetable garden-I’m a bit messy with leaving pots everywhere and don’t want anyone having an accident!!
I think there’s some tying up of roses & other climbers that are trying to get out of there space. I suppose there will always be something to do in my eyes cos I see it day to day. The sad thing is that my lovely roses have had their fling in the early part of the season so I’ll only get the odd flowers throughout the rest of the year now.
We went away for a week at the end of June and I’ve never seen such a difference in the garden after a week for a long time-all the clematis were open, my Seagull rose was almost over, my beautiful poppies were totally over and I thought ‘wow’ what’s left for August!!
We would not normally go away in June esp before the Open day but my neice got married in Cornwall so made a week’s holiday of it too. I was so stressed before we went cos of all the watering that would need doing by someone else!
But all of those early summer days are over now and I must concentrate on today! As soon as I’ve published this blog (my first!) I shall get out there and continue the planting & tidying.

Thank you so much for all your lovely complimentary comments, they have really made me feel better about the open day-but as owners we can always see the bits that didn't get done and need to see it thru fresh eyes like all of yours. It would be lovely if any of you who live in this part of the midlands could come & say hi! Thanks again and yes I will have to be strong, one does tend to get hooked on this sort of thing!!

You're spot on there - garden owners are always critical of their own efforts - while visitors see the loveliness of the flowers and plants and the hard work that's gone in to the garden. I bet you'll get lots of compliments! Please take photos on the day if you can - or get someone else to. :-)))
