Red and white Valerian

Janey

By Janey

Red and white Valerian (Centranthus ruber (Red valerian))

Old cottage garden favourites, the Valerians seem to last all summer, happiest in poor soils, they suit my garden well....:o))

I only have the pink one , we always use to call it Uncle Billys Weed because he gave us our first piece and we didn't know what it was called , he wasn't really an uncle but everyone called him that !

I wish to have Valerians, but somehow they are not grown here in gardens.

They look really at home by that wall Janey. We all want what we cant have don't we? I cant grow them either.

I use them for spots in the garden where nothing else will grow. Great plants and they flower non stop all summer :o)

A perfect spot for them Janey, they are lovely together and remind me of summer holidays;0)

Yes they do like the warmth of a wall and free draining soil......usually a sea side summer plant. If you would like a root Katarina to try them, let me know.....

Hi Janey :-) Hope you're well. We know what creature likes Valerians, dont we ...... the Humming Bird Hawk Moth - wonder if you and I will get any this year? x

Hi Dawn!! Lovely to see you here, I forgot totally about the HBHM......I think we'll need more sun and warm air...if only that Jet Stream would shift! Fingers crossed late summer, we may see them....:o))

Let's hope the weather improves Janey and hope the moths make an appearance. The weather is tragic isnt it. :-(
