More Permaculture

Those of you who have seen my previous blogs will know I have developed an interest in Permaculture through visiting and working on a Permacuture forest garden near Lancaster. I’ve been trying to bring some of these ideas into my own garden and the philosophies of Permaculture into my life in general as I feel we in the west are at a tipping point with regard to consumption, population, contamination of the environment etc. There is much to do but here is some of my progress so far…………

These last two pictures are a year on in May 11, nothing added apart from the labels

This is my front lawn which is sunny but largely unused. I’m planting herbs in the cut-away segments

Herb spiral by the front door for every day cooking herbs

Raised bed containing turf from front garden…….

topped off with home made compost……

…..and a climbing frame

Attempt to keep the cats out!

herbs planted

peas and beans in

Veg box in July- started to harvest

Herb spiral July 2010

When I took up the grass all I found was builders rubble and a sprinkling of top-soil but the lavender has thrived there

I love that herb spiral! I was reading about them the other day but couldn't visualize how to make one. I might have to try that. I can't wait to see your's in full glory.

What a good idea - as long as the smaller herbs are on the top I think it will work really good - well done!!! let us see the final result.
