The chosen one?

I had a nice surprise yesterday. An unexpected parcel was delivered to the door. I was quite puzzled – I hadnt ordered anything, what could it be?
I hurriedly ripped open the packaging, to reveal this
Has someone sent me a present? No….maybe this letter will give me a clue.
Well it turns out, I volunteered to do a trial on Miracle grow plant food and report back on the results.
That is jolly handy because I usually use that product anyway! The other jar is a new product which they sent for me to try. Its supposed to be a bit heavier in food content, intended for shrubs, so I’ll enjoy giving that a try too.
Has any other Goyer been asked to take part in this trial?
I’ll keep you updated with the photos anyway and let you know how I get on. I thought I would try it on some of my tomatoes and some other stuff Im growing from seed.

Wow thats good Poppy, I like Miracle Grow for the garden but prefer to use Tomorite or something similar for toms and cucumbers...

Tulsalady, Ive just checked the box and it says it makes 80 watering cans. I think I used two of this size box last year,so this is going to help alot.
Lincs, yes thankyou you are right, its a bit high on Nitrogen this particular feed, so Ill be better off with tomorite on the tomatoes. Ill just have to decide which poor little plants will not be getting any food at all! - which seems a bit harsh but is part of doing the trial!

Ive got a few plants you can try it on, Lol.

Lol Willi, Im feeling very virtuous today. I picked my first lot of salad leaves from the garden. The SR cookery book has arrived. I cooked salmon in sesame seeds for tonights tea! The cookery book looks fab. Ill have to try some of the recipes out on you!

I told you, you would have to go for the roof in the near future! Cant wait to see that. Ive got a few succulents with little babies coming along, you'll have to have some of those. I agree btw - you are very clever!

Good luck with your trials. It will be interesting to see the results. And what a nice surprise to have that parcel :o)

The bottle looks like slow release fertiliser (when I did the nch we called it osmocote, its said to release the nutrients when it reaches a certain temperature)
I always use it in the tomato grobags as a general fertiliser, then tomorite as usual, I seem to have less mineral deficiencies than without but it would be an interesting trial, I,ll look forwards to the updates

Sheilar it was just like Christmas! Yes Hywell I will enjoy doing the trials. Being on Goy has taught me to take photos more often. It really helps you see what youve done right/wrong when you look back over the year.
Pamg, the all purpose food does look like osmocote. On reading the label I can see it contains all the trace elements too. This is unusual, I have always used Vitax Q4 as it seemed to be the only feed on the market that did that. This also claims 'only one application for the whole season' so we shall see.

Lucky old you PPL. Shot in the dark but I may try and give my ailing rhododendrums a feed. Will it work, Buds are so o o slow.)))
3 May, 2012
Maggie Im no expert on rhodos, but I think Im right in saying you need to make sure they get lots of water right through the dry summer months, plus a bit of feed to help the buds swell up for the next year. It works on my camellias. If you have any black sooty stuff on them give them a gentle wash off, that helps too.

Thank you so much PL.Funnily enough have just read that on RHS web site.Sorry for all my typing errors . Just blowed my bonus on a new laptop. Keys are very sensitive.Correction for Rhododendrons!....Should I feed now or in July? Cant see any black spots but the buds seem small and dry..

Frebbies are always nice, how fab. :)
I use this food when I plant up and flower power in my watering can. I have not seen any posts on it though, I actually meant to write about it at some point last summer and forgot. I would be interested to know if others use Richard Jacksons flower power as I have had amazing results but would also love to know what everyone else is using??? I had previously used tomato food before I discovered this gem on Qvc.

I've a poorly old cammelia that I,ve given a prune, a feed.......and an iron tonic.....ooh and top dressed it......results remain to be seen......
5 May, 2012
Maggie, the only other thing to add to that advice is to use rainwater not tapwater then you should get good results. Sharni, Ive seen Flowerpower advertised on QVC, but have never actually ordered it. It seemed a bit expensive apart from anything else. I would be very interested to see why you have found it sooo good. Im sure alot of other Goyers would too. Please do us a blog.
Pam g. Isnt it horrid when you see your plants struggle. I hope your camellia picks up. My approach is usually - kill or cure!

I feel excited when stuff arrives from ebay...and I've paid for that! but normally forgotten all about it by the it arrives. Tell me more about cook book... SR? and can I come for dinner if I promise not to spill or break anything? It will be interesting to see your trial results Poppy..also interesting to see if you can find enough water to dilute the powder if we have another drought:-)
