New raised bed

I don’t know if any of you remember when we moved 18 months ago and started to landscape all the gardens, Well each one had decking round the edges of big and boring straight lawns with membrane attached to it with clips. When I took it all up, there was even plants and bulbs underneath the membrane. On top of the membrane was a thick layer of gravel, so you can imagine how hard it was to find the borders.
I put a small blog on here asking if any of youhad ideas what I could do with all this decking and got lots of ideas from you.
So, due to the lockdown, I have finally had the motivation to build a raised bed which is 8 foot long and three deckings high. I also used the decking for the floor, stained it all with a garden friendly stain and then covered it all with membrane.
So here it is…

The main idea is to hide the car with tall perennials, but am also thinking about putting a high trellis on it.
What do think ?

What a good idea! Maybe plant some herbs and veg to remind yourself when walking to your car to nip to the shops that you dont need to buy any.

A trellis could accommodate some runner beans, depending on the aspect of course, not only pretty but useful too. Amazing what things have got done during the lock-down that have been pending for so long. Your raised bed/planter is great, and using up the old decking too.

That's a job well done. I think a trellis with perhaps an evergreen climber is a great idea.

Thanks Bill, but I always intended to put tall perennials in and sent away for them a couple of months ago.
Thank you Honeysuckle. I am pleased with it and didn't expect to ever get it finished !
Thank you Julia, and I like your suggestion of roses going up the trellis. I think you have made my mind up for me !

Very professional finish Rose - I too love the colour you have chosen.
I think a trellis is a very good idea and to have a rose, clematis, honeysuckle or even a few sweet peas sounds lovely to me.
Do let us know what you decide to do.

Thats also a good idea Waddy ! An evergreen climber. I am not going to know what to use now ! Hahaa!
Thanks Kate. Definitely a trellis then !
Thank you Karen. I wasn't sure at first, but like it now ! I had to give it three coats too !
Hello Chris, thank you and sweet peas would have been lovely , but think I have left it too late now. Next year maybe !

Oh yes a trellis would be good and with climbers it will hide a multitude of sins, the list is endless, I think a rose and an evergreen clematis would work well for year round interest, you could have some bulbs also for springtime, well done Rose you've made a good job out of that.

Thar's brilliant Rose, a good example of recycling :)

What a great job you`ve done Rosie, I think a trellis would give scope for roses or runner beans, whichever you prefer it will be much better than looking onto a parked car.

Thank you Sue, I agree but not sure what to put in there now ! So many suggestions !
Thank you Hywel. At least I can move about in the garage now as they were always in the way !
Thanks Stroller. I am hoping to get the trellis soon but not sure about going to garden centres yet ! I ordered all my plants online for the borders in March and they are growing quite well now !
