The finished project !

The trellis is painted and the raised bed planted up with the Clematis Bourbon and Suzy Mac.
I decided to just use clematis as the depth is only 20 inches x 18 inches wide and even though the width is 8 foot long I didn’t want an evergreen climber as the roots eventually would have took over. I will just have to be patient waiting for the Clems to spread. Not that I have any patience ! Hahaa!
The bed is mostly filled with perennials apart from a couple of annuals. I finished the planting off with white flint stones to keep the dang fox off ! I must have spent a fortune buying powders, Silent Roar pellets etc! Now the borders are full of short canes which I cut up from long ones and it still finds a place to dig !
Sorry…didn’t mean to have a moan !
Enjoy the bank holiday despite the Covid19 !
Hopefully we are all getting the sun so that we can all get out in our gardens.
Take care and stay safe !

Its blowing a gale here today..second day of it, but tomorrow looks a lot better. At least the sun is now breaking through. Your trellis and planter look really neat. You could always add annual climbers to ease your impatience! A couple of sweet peas perhaps?

Thanks Hywel! The raised bed is made from decking wood which was left in the garage when we moved in and its very heavy. I have fixed the trellis on with wood screws right down to the ground, so hopefully should stand up to the winds.
Its our second day of gales here too Karen, but good forecast for next week.
Thank you for your suggestion. I did consider sweet peas or annual climbers but it is too late to sow them now and couldn't find any at the one garden centre I have been to.
I don't want to risk going round too many even if they have got restrictions in place. I sent for all the plants I would need this summer( apart from bedding ) from Brookside Nurseries and were very impressed with them.

Very pretty. It makes a good division.

Very sensible Rose. Glad you found a reliable online source. I have used a few this year and so far haven't been too disappointed. :)

Looks lovely lets hope the sticks deter the fox they say not to use animal based plant feeds like bone meal this will attract foxs. The clematis s will acreen the trellis lovely when rhey spread.

That's an interesting point 3d. I hadn't thought of that. I don't use animal based any more because the dogs make themselves ill on it. Now I only use liquid seaweed and occasionally phostrogen. It's harder work because you can't just put it down, you have to water it in every fortnight. But it's a wonderful fertilizer, especially good for root growth which is after all, the basis of a good plant.

Rose, what a wonderful job you have made of this and the finished result is really lovely. I too don't have a huge amount of patience when it comes to some things, so the sooner you can post a photo of the clematis covering your trellis the better!!!
It all looks very pretty indeed.

You can get a hose head Karen to add your liquid feed you just pour it into the head which attaches to the hose .

I have had a Miracle Grow liquid feeder Karen which measures the right amount out feed into the sprayer. But I also prefer Liquid Seaweed.
Thank you Anget.
I can definitely recommend Brookside Nursery Karen. They send jumbo size plugs too.
Thanks Thrupenny. I have never used bone meal or chicken pellets as it does attract the foxes. I have known the fox go in between the sticks and as they are quite close together, don't know how it manages it ! Mind you, as it couldn't get through anywhere last night, it decided to leave me a " present" on the lawn !
Hahaa Chris ! You are so like me ! I think it will be a while before you see the trellis covered.

It looks very good, be patient and your clematis will look beautiful . Hope you haven't been blown away in the terrible winds. Marjorie

That's a brilliant choice for the trellis Rose - it will look fabulous when its grown - looks pretty good now doesn't it?
Disappointing that all your efforts still haven't beaten Mr Fox though.

I wonder would clear bottles of water do it laying them in the bed as it works with cars and dogs.

Not quite sure what you mean Thrupenny...cars !
Thank you Seaburngirl!
Thank you Marjorie! I stayed indoors mostly as the strong winds kept battering me and got a migraine.
Thanks Stera.I can't wait for everything to grow and then hide the car !

Its because I am on a phone Rose I cant win if I speak into it for the phone to type it gets words wrong then if I type myself either my thumb goes over the wrong letter or predictive text puts a wrong word.

Sorry Thrupenny, I have only just seen your last message as my hubby has been poorly but is well now!
That must be difficult and annoying. I text my friend in N.Ireland quite a lot and when I read my message back , I have often hit the wrong letter ! I really should read it before I send it !

I hope your husband stays well Rose give him my best wishes. Lol I think most people have the same trouble I ve seen others on here hit the key but I know what they mean . If I had to read all my comments I would nt have time to reply to most on here a letter would be different your only replying to one.

Thank you Homebird. I lost one Clematis though. When I bought it from a garden centre that had just opened , the clems were all tangled up and should have realised that they had been left since the covid19 began. I was too impatient because now they have all new stock in! So, I bought a cheaper one from a local shop and will have to wait a bit longer for the flowers!

Now that is lovely Rose :) It's going to look very colourful when the clematises grow over it.
Have you put something to keep it stable in a high wind … ?
