Hi Guys,
worked this morning then when i got home decided to spend a little time in the garden as the sun was shinning for a while but a bit cool out of the sun, what with earthquakes and thunder storms in the fylde its been a strange few days, weather men got it all wrong as usual.
so back to my garden, done some weeding around the pond area and the rock/gravel/mound area hahaha, some will remember last year i had to disguise a mound of earth which had a sycamore growing in it which we chopped down, not alot could grow in there and took ages to dig small roots out so to plant anything but its ok and better than before. so weeded that area and found quite a few pansy`s had seeded around so moved them so i could see them, they had grown almost behind the shed.
altered my pond pump to flow better down the waterfall and cleaned some plants out which were taking over, my fish have gotten quite chubby over winter, surprising really as they dont get fed, lack of exercise i guess lol
planted my new plants from the plant hunters fair where i could find a bit of space and also moved a couple of plants to, all in all i did ok but still cant cut my grass as to wet. maybe tomorrow if sunny again.
baz gone to notingham to pick a car up,,, yes another, this time a fiesta from the 80`s not sure what model, so he will be selling the austin1300 if that means anything to anyone, but still has a escort in the garage but that only comes out in summer, well at least it keeps him quite and out of trouble haha
back to my garden, its amazing with some sun and rain how quickly the plants are coming up now, hostas sprouting nicely, clems with buds or new growth, delphiniums growing fast, no sign of my delmera peltata(indian rhubarb) which i love but could be a bit soon yet.anyway a few pics not many as i forgot to take then while out there so snapped a few a few moments ago but going dusk now, angelina statue looks like she is looking at all the plants comming back, when i look at her it reminds me of my angelina as i got her as a memorial to my lovely cat.
hope you have all enjoyed your day to :o))

I heard that you'd had an earthquake... we had one a few years ago its a very strange sensation isn't it-- I was sitting in the conservatory and it felt as if my chair had been thumped in the back.....
your garden is lovely-- I've a fairy at the bottom of my garden too-- I don't like coloured ones but have a few items dotted around some quite old--its like old friends when the peep out of the undergrowth ( the tortoise is always getting lost-- havn't seen him for ages :0)))

just spotted the comment about the fish--I saw some tiny ones in our pond-- probably last years-- they are very small and a brownish colour changing to black as they grow then slowly go gold-- must be a camoflage mechinism i think...isn't nature wonderful...

3 Apr, 2011

has your tortoise hibernated pam?

Hi Sandra - your garden is looking lovely as usual and I'm pleased to see that you have found a nice place to put the piece of wood that you bought at the Plant Finders Fair. Your clematis picture has a huge number of flower heads - what sort is it ? It will be a fantastic show when they are all out.

Happy Gardening.

I've been working in shirt sleeves down on the allotment.

8 Apr, 2011

its been beautifull today, so hot, like summer, hope its not all to soon though ;o(

9 Apr, 2011

Working in shirt sleeves again today & got sunburnt! LOL!

I was telling my wife that the last time (or perhaps the 1st!) I got sunburned in April was when I was somewhere between about 17 & 20! (Anybody know when Easter fell in that period of time (1967-70)?) That was a lot more severe than a mere reddening of my face, arms & neck from these 2 or 3 days of exposure this week. At that time when mum called me in for dinner she asked me why my face was so red? When I went to put my shirt on my back stung terribly! A few days later my skin began to peel off. It is something that has always stayed in my mind since then & I have never been badly sunburnt since.

Though that brings to mind when I burnt the backs of my legs during my first year in Spain! I'd been swimming & laid down to dry off & warm up. Remembering the experience of a few years earlier I covered my back with a towel but I forgot my legs! I got badly burned & the pain was unbearable for days. Wearing trousers was a nightmare, as was going to bed! I never got sunburnt again in all the 20 odd years I lived in Spain! But I did on the allotment last year! I'll have to put suncream on next week! LOL!

9 Apr, 2011

lol balcony sorry shouldnt laugh, i know to well that experience, its agony to say the least,
my poor brother has the worst kind of skin cancer for the last 5 years, 3 ops later and will continue till he dies, either the cancer will travel or will live a normal life span, i hate seeing him stress himself out every time it comes back, all through exposure to the sun when a boy, they didnt protect us then, we went in the garden naked as children to play, but it takes 30 plus years to come out as it has with my brother, he is a red head so you can imagine how fragile his skin is, so take care of yourself while in the sun balcony, im very careful especially when sunbathing or hols now,
anyway on a lighter note hope the allotment is growing well :o))

10 Apr, 2011

I do take care not to get sunburnt, I mostly stay out of the sun but when working on the allotment you get hot & sticky & so you take off your jumper & as you're busy & moving around a lot you don't feel your skin getting hot. It's not until the evening or the next day you realise. I still have a tube of cream in the shed from last year. I must remember to put some on before leaving the shed. But then we are forecast cooler weather next week & perhaps a shower or two from Wednesday so maybe not so much of a problem as I won't be wanting to take my jumper off!

There's not a great deal to see at present other than lots of long mounds of soil where I've planted lots of potatoes! Nevertheless I will be making up a new blog shortly on the allotment.

I have another blog, on London Gardens, in draft form so perhaps today or tomorrow I'll finish it & publish it.

10 Apr, 2011

will look out for your blog balcony and the update on your allotment, didnt think the sun would last but maybe best as its a bit early and the plants need rain for a good start ;o))
