bought my new pond

Hi Guys and Girlies,
Today has been so sunny again even though cold i much prefere it to wet and cloudy.
Firstly i had to go to the grundy gallery to help hand back paintings to members which took a couple of hours and some didnt turn up as usual, even though they have all the times and dates and are asked to get a friend or family member to help if they cant make it. no wonder my art lady gets frustrated with certain members lol
Then i came home had a quick lunch with Baz before we set off to water world close by to purchase a new pond as the sale was on.
A helpfull young man talked to us and gave us addvice on maybe raising it a bit with our water table troubles lol, he said its still possible it could move if water gets under depending on the water table level in our garden,
so we are now thinking to raise it and build stones or rocks around, even if its just level with grass area and not sunken as it is now,
going to mean more digging etc for Baz but he said its no problem “am i hearing things” lol
the new pond is slighly different in shape and a bit larger which im happy with and hopefull with no rocks being in the solid pond will mean less string algea problems,
also better shelves to have plants which apparently more plants less string algea i was reading, also the more it settles in the better to,
so here is a picture of the pond we have ordered with 25% off, its a Blagdon Damselfly 500 Dimensions: 179 × 114 × 48cm
Capacity: 500 litres
so next when weather better we can start the work, have to wait because of my fish, dont want to upset them by moving in the winter, also we need to try and save most of the pond water so its not harming the fish,so thats the update, just hope it works

Fortunate to have Baz helping ;o)

Mega job there for Baz then. lol. Do you know anyone with a childs swimming pool San, when we had to clean ours out a few years back that is what we used, I mean one of the deep ones obviously, it meant the fish were in the water pumped out of the pond whilst the cleaning was done and we were able to put half the same water back as it went through the filters twice, fish were and still are fine.....

thanx Grandmage, yes a big spring job haha but looking forward to it :o))
thanx mushy, i told baz it would be hard work getting a new shape, was going to get round to just drop in the hole basicly but he said its no problem, will see :o))
thankyou Terra, yes i wanted to make sure i wasnt heading for more trouble but hopefully we have it all under control, i couldnt do it without my Baz for sure :o))
lol sue i can hear the giggles from here haha, i think there maybe lots of bleeps in the next blog :o))) im going to place my fish in a large tub with pond water sue so should be ok, and also you can get stress drops to help when putting them back, i may need them to haha.

Looks great, good luck with 'planting' it on the level!!!
15 Jan, 2012
thanx Lulu, im sure we will get it right on the level, Baz being a builder is very peticular when it comes to being level :o)))
15 Jan, 2012

15 Jan, 2012

Your pond is a lovely shape Sandra. I bet you'll be pleased when it's in. I hope the fish will like their new home :o) It was good you had that helpful shop asistant to explain things to you. Some are just not interested.
It's too cold for me today Sandra :o( Unlike you I would preffer it damp and mild ... or sunny and mild would be even better. ... Can't cope with cold weather - it hurts my bones :o( At least it isn't snowing lol
Good luck ! Let us know how it goes ...........
15 Jan, 2012
Hi Hywel and glad you like it, i cant wait to get it in but i have to wait because of weather and my fishies, dont want to put them into panic, so at least i can plan for when its in cant i.
sorry its to cold for you hywel, its the damp that gets to my joints, so we are the opposites lol, will keep you posted when we start, lots of pics of Baz cursing im sure haha :o))) x
15 Jan, 2012
Great! Cant wait too see it all done :)))))))))
15 Jan, 2012

Excellent Sandra - the same make we have :)))))))))) looks lovely doesn't it :)))))))) Really look forward to the pictures when it is all in :))))))))))))))))))))))))))
15 Jan, 2012
I dug my pond out myself! was pretty hard going I can tell you! This looks much easier! :)
15 Jan, 2012
Hi paul thanx, yes got it now as in sale so didnt want to miss out, just means a bit more digging and getting it packed and level, but luckerly baz knows what he is doing, i shall monitor closely and make sure all is to my specifications haha, im the planter not the ponder, did you find it quite easy paul to lay it, also we shall cement the large rocks i have around the edge, then some of the pebbles so i can plant between :o))))
15 Jan, 2012
pixi i to helped dig out the pond and was hard work with so much clay, so really this not as bad because most of the work is already done :o)
15 Jan, 2012
Wasn't too bad - was a little annoying for a while - but not too bad at all - just line it well with sand - It may sink a tad one way if the ground is wet or whatever - but you should be okay:)))))) Mine leans slightly right - but it stops any threats of mass overflow :))))))))))))))) Really look forward to seeing it :))))) Love the swap of jobs a few plants in while Baz digs lol - I got my Dad to dig it (said I was no good) he did that , I put grasses in hehehe
15 Jan, 2012
thanx paul it should be ok as with the hard clay then plenty of sand to level i hope it will be ok lol, im crap at digging paul, only dig soft ground, no strength in my wrists and hands these days, a real wimp lol
but i can plant till the cows come home, wish we could do it now but i dare not disturb my fish and with this cold icy weather not chancing it, have to be patient wont i haha :o)))
15 Jan, 2012
Yes clay digging is horrid - sloppy messy wet and really hard to dig . Maybe if we have enough days of mild again :)))
15 Jan, 2012
Well done Sandra, best to get in the sale. Why are you changing from the liner? Baz will never be idle, lol.
15 Jan, 2012
Great! That's exactly the pond I had in my old garden San! Oh, I do hope this works out well this time....sure it will... :)
15 Jan, 2012
Hi Sanbaz, lovely pond please post pic's of befor and after you have dug in the pond :)
15 Jan, 2012
San that is the same shape that we had, but ours was green with a larger rim, secret is to put plenty of sand under it, there must be some video with tips on installing these type of ponds on youtube, ours always leaned to the left whatever we did........good luck with your new venture I remember how excited I was when we bought our first one home.
15 Jan, 2012
Oh yes, plenty of sand San...very important to get it perfectly level. I didn't first time so had to take out all the water and start over again!
16 Jan, 2012
Hi bet you can't wait for the warmer weather to come to put your new pond in, i find if you get floating plants you dont get alot of green on your pond, looking forward to seeing it when its done x.
16 Jan, 2012
Looking forward to seeing it finished :)
16 Jan, 2012
thanx everyone for your comments and addvice,
Dawn the liner we have at the moment isnt holding very well with all the heavy rain here and the clay, its making the liner bellow so iv decided on a solid pond in hope it will be better, also baz is going to lay drainage close to the pond to help drainage.
sue i will do a blog on the change over,
thanx karen seems a few have had this type or shape, paul said his leans slightly to right and your to left lol
so hopeing baz being a builder will get it spot on haha
Angela thanx iv been reading up and watching youtube so we get things right and like you said plenty of sand :o))
hi carol yes going to put more plants, the water isnt green its just string algea wich is the problem but hoping when new pond in and no stones or rocks inside water it will be better as the string is hard to keep off the rocks fully and just grows again.so fingers crossed x
thanx nana me to :o))
16 Jan, 2012
Its a nice shape Sandra. It sounds like a big job that`ll be worth it in the end. :o)
16 Jan, 2012
hi sandra nice to see you, yes think it will be a big job even though we have a pond there, its a totally different shape and just hope baz doesnt hurt his back replacing it,
going to raise it up slightly to so level with grass and will be able to see the pond then from the house.
but yes will be worth it in the end :o))
16 Jan, 2012
Like your new pond. Im sure the fish will love there new home...
18 Jan, 2012
Hi San, you will have plenty of work getting that liner in! The different shelf levels will surely be the hardest for you. Hope everything goes well for the two of you! Looking forward, almost as much as you, to the results of your labours! :-))
18 Jan, 2012
I see Sandra. A rigid one sounds better for you then :-) We live and learn.
18 Jan, 2012
thankyou Holly im sure they will :o))
cheers Balcony i was talking to Baz today about the shelves etc but he doesnt seem to be worried about it all ,unlike me, a born worrier lol :o))
Dawn it came today and it looks big but then when close to our pond it didnt seem alot different so hopefully not alot of adjusting haha, she says with fingers crossed lol :o))but yes it should be alot better once its in. put away in shed till better weather now.
18 Jan, 2012
Good luck with all the manouvers Sandra, you seem to have it all sussed. Had to smile about the stress drops for the fish, I should keep some handy in case you should need some, lol.
18 Jan, 2012
Glad you got it Sandra. Look massive until in the ground, dont they .... phew, hopefully not too much digging for Baz to get it settled.
18 Jan, 2012
Yeah its hard work digging clay! Bottom of my garden is full of it! I've put so moany things in it over the years too..ashes from the fire..peat..sand..to no avail lol..just hope my shed doesnt sink in it all!
19 Jan, 2012
You could use it as a swimming pool Sandra.
20 Jan, 2012
lol stroller, think i will need the stress drops by the time its done haha
does look massive Dawn but when it was near the pond i have now it didnt look to bad :o))
pixi they say lots of composs in to break clay up, i did that in part of my garden and did help :o))
lol linda yes and will charge for entry hahaha :o))
20 Jan, 2012
We would need some warm, sunny weather for that Sandra.
21 Jan, 2012
Yeah have added badfuls of compsot..shop bought and farm manure too! STILL IT THICK CLAY. :(
21 Jan, 2012
lol linda your right, lets hope this summer is a good one after the last few awfull ones :o)
pixi it must be bad then, im not to bad has baz made me a raised border with all fresh topsoil, also near the pond i sloped it with fresh soil so i didnt have to dig into the clay, but my garden does get boggy when heavy rain, takes ages to drain away :o((
22 Jan, 2012
That pond is a lovely shape, San ... fingers crossed the installation goes well ... I now have an image of you, Baz and a spirit level! ... :o)
24 Jan, 2012
lol shirley, glad you like the shape, i do to and glad i didnt just go for the circle one.
i can see its going to be fun and games fitting it though, im so looking forward to being out there again, winter always seems so very long, hope your feeling a bit better shirley and not over doing things, take care :o) xx
24 Jan, 2012
I know what you mean, San ... once Christmas and New Year have passed it seems an eternity until Springtime! ... Horrible weather down here today ... rained most of the day and no sun forecast either ... I am taking it very easy ... just feel so tired though ... :o( x
24 Jan, 2012
rain here shirley, misserable all day, been to art so lifted my spirits,
glad you taking it easy and yes you will feel tired your body has had a big shock and its totally worn out with that, in time you will regain your strength shirley but unfortunatly you cant run before you can walk.
so plenty of rest, jigsaws and reading, soon it will be summer and you can enjoy your garden :o))) xx
24 Jan, 2012
Ok San ... I shall do as I'm told to ... lol! ... :o)
25 Jan, 2012
